KHSAA Football Finals To Become A 3-Day Event

Featured Replies

2 games each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to the other thread on the Spalding football, this was also approved by the Board of Control...

"The Board also approved a proposal from staff to adjust the football finals schedule beginning in 2016, by playing two games per day on Friday through Sunday. The expansion of the schedule would address a continued effort to minimize lost school time where possible, as well as help alleviate traffic concerns due to the state finals and classes at the host site."

If this is true, it is a step in the right direction. :ylsuper:

I'm not in love with this idea, but at the same time I never much cared for the early games.

From a personal standpoint I don't like the games overlapping the NFL on Sunday.

From a what's best for KY High School Football I like it. It will make the football finals more of an event, more enjoyable, and hopefully more people will come out and see the games. WKU is the perfect venue for the state football finals.

Moving to three days also probably gives the KHSAA some wiggle room in case WKU is hosting the C-USA championship game again like this past season.

I say move them to Lexington or EKU now. All have turf now.

They are locked in at WKU through 2018

I think most agree that WKU setting is better.

I say keep the finals at WKU.

And I agree with the notion that the 3 Day Format gives the KHSAA plenty of wiggle room if WKU hosts anymore title games.

I know. I just think attendance would be better if in the Lexington area. I mean kids dream of playing inCommonwealth stadium.

The venue is too big.

And to an extent I think that is yesteryear thinking.

It is big but the games were played in Louisville forever like that. Teams from the Louisville area had an advantage there when they made it. Just like some tea from the western part of the state now. I say move it to Lexington or Richmond so Eastern and Northern Kentucku teams can have a little leveridge for once.

Why is this always an issue with the football finals? I never hear complaints from the Class A Tournament, boys or girls state basketball tournaments, or golf, for that matter. They are nearly week long events, but there seems to be such a concern about missing school during state football finals.

It just sounds good.

Obviously that logic is laughable when you consider basketball alone but again it sounds good.
