Funny thing is, many older folks will tell you today this country was WAY BETTER OFF than 50 years ago than now. Progress sometimes just means going the wrong way. Newer is not always better.

The regular season is meaningless as far as a playoff goes. It always has been, always will be, seeding or no seeding. So you play three seeding games. What about the other 25 games? They are meaningless, right? Let's just play the three seeding games and forget the other 25 because they, in your opinion, are meaningless, right? No. The game is foe the kids, not for you so you can log onto BGP and tell everyone how proud you are that your school has advanced to the regional.

Well most of them do anyways. They just want the chance to get as close to Rupp as possible. This is still KY.

You should get out and talk to more kids. I know kids whining about transfers, seeding, exposure on TV and Twitter, hell I know kids salty about who unfollowed them the other day. You really want the kids and their short attention span to make decisions that affect their school and teams many years on down the line? That doesn't seem logical to me. I mean, if we're using kids and what they whine about as a metric we shouldn't let them know. Otherwise they'll all drop out of school and stay home to play NBA2K16 against each other all day.

 

I have two boys and three girls. Neither boy has ever said anything about the agendas you mentioned, and both play high school sports. They only care about playing the game. The girls, thankfully, have stayed away from sports.

You sure? According to some the championship game was played in the first round between Dunbar and Mercer County and seeding the Sweet 16 in the future is something that could possibly happen if decision makers feel that seeding will increase attendance.

 

If I was consistently the second best team in my district and I had to play against the best team in the first round of districts every year I'd be salty too. Especially if my team is consistently better than or equal to the 3rd and 4th place team and everyone knew it. There's nothing wrong with wanting a better shot to play in the region tournament by playing a team you should statistically and mathematically be playing against in round one.

 

Again, if UK and Duke were #1 and #2 in the nation and played in round one of the NCAA tourney that would go over so so well.

If I am "consistently the second best team in my district" then obviously I want to seed because, as I said, you have to play Big Brother and they keep beating me. So instead of getting better and knowing you have to beat them to win, you settle for being 2nd best and ride the #2 train to the regional.

 

Makes perfect sense right? I don't want the 3 or 4 team to potentially go because I am better than them, but I want to go, even though I am not the best.

 

Put someone else down using the same logic to get my team there...

I agree that post was a bit far. The point was that it was stated Bracken was "afraid" to play Mason County. When in fact Augusta and St Pat are the ones truly "afraid" of seeding because they will hardly ever see their precious money from the regional tournament.

Thought I was the only BGP member that remembers 50 years ago. In fact, the older I get, the better I use to be.

The only thing Bracken is afraid of is watching the faces of the poor fans who have to see Augusta/St Pat get embarrassed in the region. It appears Augusta and St Pat are truly the afraid ones because they are still going with the draw.

 

Not sure your suggestion is consistent with the facts. Augusta has played in 5 straight 10th Region tournaments, and made it to the championship game this past year. The last time Bracken County played in the 10th Region tournament they lost in the first round by 44 points (2014).

Exactly. And I don't blame them one bit. You see it differently. Makes me grateful that my school is in the 45th District where seeding lives and flourishes.

We hate it in HS football when bad teams make the playoffs and say only the best deserve the chance. When an 8-8 team in the NFL gets a home playoff game and a 10-6 teams doesn't even get in, it's an atrocity. We say that the playoffs are meaningful and should be a reward for a good season. We complain about playoff blowouts and mismatches. We hate how everyone gets a trophy, and moan how it makes kids soft. But yet in this case, people fight and defend a system where a not very good team gets rewarded and an obviously better team wil end up staying home. There's a reason why no major sports league does blind draws. It's a terrible way to set up a championship.

This is really not that big of a deal. It's just Bracken County. Augusta and St. Patrick should just play each other 4 times now during the season instead of twice. Once Bracken is down again in two season, they will be begging Augusta and St. Pat for games.

Regarding money...

 

I have been told that if the District opted to seed the 4 teams would split the money 4 ways, regardless of who qualified for the Regional Tournament.

 

Pendleton Co proposed this a few years ago to the teams in the 38th...no dice.

I coached in a seeded district for 3 years, each year with a losing record, but was still decidedly better than 1 team in the district. Would it have improved my chances to make region if we drew? Absolutely, but I wouldn't vote for it. The region should be about the best teams advancing. Now, if I pull the shocker in the district and advance...then I've earned my spot. I was also at a school that was successful in other sports, so the $ thing wasn't an issue.

The Entitled Generation continues to keep whining, but it's not the kids who are crying—it's the adults who can't keep their grimy hands off sports. The players could care less about seeding, who they play, or any other political, agenda-driven cause that coaches, athletic directors, and principals use for their own self-preservation. That's all this is about. It is not what's best for the kids, like just letting them play sports without a lot of adult-driven drama.

 

Who cares if a team is seeded? If you plan on winning any championship worth its salt, you're gonna have to beat great teams along the way. These small-school advocates are coaches and administrators who just try to further their own chances for success, not the kids.

 

Shame on Bracken County and its so-called leaders. And I'm not pro or con toward seeding. If it's basketball, you only need five players on the court, and only two have to be really good if your goal is a regional title. Seen it many times from small and big schools. Enrollment isn't the reason you win or lose in basketball. Neither is seeding. It's just another excuse from agenda-driven adults. You don't hear the kids whining about it.

 

I agree for most part sports would be better if adults would just let kids play. But on the other hand, kids do care if they have to watch teams they could beat by 30 pts play one another and advance to the region tournament when they get beat by 3 pts to the #1 team in the district and don't get a chance to advance on.

 

Kids like playing the best but they also don't want to see an unfair situation keep them out of a chance to play on.

For the ones saying you have to beat the best to win it. That is true but there have been district runner-ups win the regional. But if the two best teams play in the 1st round of a district then they don't have that chance to win the regional.

I have never understood not seeding. I want the two best teams to represent a district. If a #3 or #4 beat a #2 or a #1 seed then they deserve to move on.
