Can anyone say Mayfield vs. Beechwood for state title...each and every year this is in place

Here is the problem, I would love for Pikeville to compete in 2a because it looks so competitive but the only school I see remotely close to us in 2a is Betsy Layne and I think there still not competing in district play. After that the closest schools to us in 2a are Middlesboro,Corbin,and Somerset. Although that would be one of the best districts in the entire state all classes with or with out Pikeville in it. It would be a logistical nightmare and be tough on the school system to have to go that far(everyone get out your state maps) at least twice a year and possibly twice more in the playoffs. Pikeville is only about 15 boys away from being 1a so with graduation and transfers we may just squeak in to 1a by next year.

 

 

Pikeville will have a good shot at coming back in 2008, when Cumberland and Evarts will be out of 1A. Are they still going to move teams up or down every two years if their enrollment increases or decreases?

I'm sure Beechwood will move up to 2A with NewCath.

 

I would tend to think just the opposite, when Beechwood was on its big run they could have played up but did not. Mayfield and Danville did play up back then. I hope Mayfield does not choose to play up. Though a bit watered down, a title is a title aand I'll takem when I can get'em . The only others I can think of that played up is Highlands (I think but I'm not 100%) and Murray. Anyone else play up back when it was an option?

I don't know what Beechwood will do but like Toothpick I think they will stay put for the time being but I am going to start a thread on it.

I wouldnt throw the Beechies under that bus. CovCath has all they can handle with them year in and year out, and none of the teams in your above mentioned district are a CovCath.

Really? You don't think that Dixie, BC, Ryle, SK, and CC would give CCH all they wanted if they were district foes? My friend, your living in the past somewhere.... CCH is a 3A school, and a top quality 3A school such as thereselves should be able to compete in the next class up, I am sure they would in the district, but am less certain about getting a state title appearance any easier than they do now. It's a long road to the finals. I totally disagree with you on 1A Beechwood. I do not believe that over the course of a season they would have similar success. Would they win a game or two? Sure, but a moral victory is about the only one I can see.

I dont know I havent heard, but IMO it would only be fair to those teams on the border line like Pikeville is in this scenario.

No I don't. Oh you forgot Scott. HHS and CCHS would dominate that district year in and year out. But that cant be. Smaller schools cant compete with really big schools thats why we need more classes. As for Beechwood they would finish 3rd or 4th most years therefore securing a playoff spot. Nobody said anything about these schools winning a state title in 4A. I just think you shouldn't look down your nose at the smaller schools. In NKY its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog that prevails.

How hard can it be to grasp?

Huge School- 12-15 players playing 5 spots

Tiny School- 7-8 players

 

Varsity Baseball

 

Huge School 25-30 players playing 11 spots

Tiny School 15-20 players

 

Varsity Football

 

Huge School 75-100 players playing 36 spots

But, just browsing quickly, I saw quite a few smaller schools in the state tourneys for baseball, boys and girls basketball which do use one class.

Correct, noone said the small schools would win districts outright against the largest schools and run through the playoff tourney.

 

Only ONE school wins a ring, everyone else loses....even the bigger schools.

I was talking about several years not just last year.

I went through all the years available on the khsaa website for baseball, girls/boys b-ball.

 

And for the record...there are lots of LARGE schools there....but they aren't alone.
