KHSAA Board of Control Football Committee Approves Going to 6 Classes (Take #2)

If it means decreasing district sizes, then as a Russell Fan, then I'm for it. We are currently in a 8-team district which severly limits our non-conf schedule. We have our traditional 3 non-conf games in (Ashland, Boyd and Greenup, which are now 5a,4a,4a), but it could give us a chance to occasionally schedule a game with some other schools around us. And for those who like the district now, with the alignment the only school that won't move up with Russell would be West Carter. As for the playoffs, we still have Mercer, Henry Co, Belfry with us, but there would be no rematch with Newport and Owensboro Cath, since they go to 2a.

It will be curious to hear what the coaching staffs feelings are about the new classes.

The coaches will have to like it very much because it gives teams a better chance at post season play and maybe a home game for some additional money for the program! To me it's a Win-Win situation better than the other choices........LTW.

I'm sure someone already said this and I just missed it, but is this supposed to go into effect in the 2006 season??

Publicly I want to say thanks to Sandman for all the work dividing the classes into even breakdowns. Yeah there is a mistake or two, but he did a better job then I could even consider doing. :thumb:

Somebody refresh my memory. In the past when schools were allowed to play up in class, what happened to the smallest school in that class? Did they stay in that class or were they bumped down a class?

Well, from the standpoint of being a Mayfield fan, if we stay in 1A the road to Louisville SHOULD be more easily traveled. Beechwood and Mayfield would APPEAR to be the top two teams. That all depends on the alignment. It is also kind of sad to see the class change. 1A will be so watered down that I would almost want Mayfield to play up in 2A. it would be a much more competitive class.

I'm sure Beechwood will move up to 2A with NewCath.

You think so??

I think you'll be wrong about that. They do want to win championships; but they want those championships to have as much meaning as possible.

I hope you are right BF, this will be a tell tale sign, IMO....

By the way, schools that I hope play up at least 1 level:

Lou. Holy Cross

Lex Cath

Danville

Highlands

CCH

Is there a place that has enrollment for males and females? Will that change some teams up? One more question, the way it looks Betsy layne would be in 2A with Pikeville but am unsure about teams besides them. Could someone shed the light a little?

What year will this go into effect for?

The way I understand it, this would start next year.

Teams moved up on their own, and no one was moved down accordingly.

Depends on which model you look at, in one they are already up.
