This is unrelated to the actual events that took place, but what is the deal with media outlets saying that everything is a long rifle? Has the term "long rifle" replaced the previously hot term "assault rifle?" I heard them using this term during the PP attacks and thought it might just be a one time slip up, but they were using it again all yesterday. Knowing what a long rifle is, it made me chuckle every time one of the analysts called their weapons long rifles. If you don't know what it is, google longrifle and tell me if anyone pictured the suspects carrying those around. Sometimes it amazes me how clueless those analysts are.

 

I think it really depended on when you were watching. Fox News this left wing radicals opened up the box many times. I was kind of confused as to whether or not they knew what their agenda was or if they were just trying to inaccurately report the news. I'm still not sure.

I think a police officer called one of the recent find a "long gun" and the media ran with it,...I think.

 

Witnesses said 3. Two mailes and a female.

 

I understand that. What I was posting came from an update from the police themselves. I think they are confident themselves that there were only two shooters.

I'm interested in knowing what turned Sayed and Tashfeen into killers. Did the two just watch "Natural Born Killers"? What was this online mail-order bride business about? Was Sayed indoctrinated in Saudi Arabia? What triggered the work-related difficulties? Arguments over religion perhaps? Answers may lie in an analysis of their computers.

This is a question that has no simple answer. I'm sure there are numerous people more qualified than any of us who are debating this same question. The way our society has become politically polarized, any solution will be met with serious backlash. I think any solution will be a compromise of the two schools of thought regarding gun control that exist today, something that I am not sure the current administration and congress can achieve. But I will offer my rudimentary thoughts on this.

 

First, and this probably wont surprise many, but I think that gun free zones are targets. I haven't researched this thoroughly, but I am fairly certain that every mass shooting has occurred in a gun free zone. Why is this? It should be obvious, but gun free zones provide a "safe haven", or soft target, for these barbarians to fester. They know that they will will receive little to no resistance in these areas at least until the police show up, which could be several minutes and long enough for severe damage to be done. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that by eliminating gun free zones I expect someone to step up and prevent or limit these shootings. Realistically, I think that might be possible about 10 to 15% of the time. But by eliminating gun free zones, the shooters will not be so certain that they will have zero resistance, and may dissuade them from from targeting such sensitive sights (schools, PP, movie theaters) where the civilians are sitting ducks.

 

Secondly, I think that it is obvious that we need to be proactive in ensuring that guns don't fall in the wrong hands. This one is a little more difficult in my opinion, because you have to navigate around the rights granted by the constitution. I know that TTP is going to get on here an lambaste me for believing in the Constitution, but whatever. Don't fault me for believing in a document, a collection of rights that our forefathers felt so strongly in, that they were willing to fight to the death for against inconceivable odds. I don't have an answer of how to better regulate the gun population, is that more stringent background checks, harsher penalties for illegal sales, I don't know. However, I think that if you are a law abiding American who has given no indications of mentally in capabilities or any other "red flags" you should have no reason to worry. Its a shame that such a small percentage of gun owners have tarnished a centuries-old right, that played a role in the formation of our country, and we need to do everything to protect that right, but something needs to be done to ensure that guns don't fall in the wrong hands.

 

Again, I will state that there is no simple solution to this problem and that I am far from qualified to provide one. I am simply stating my opinion on what I see as a general direction in which I believe that gun control may go in order to minimize likelihood of these events to repeat themselves.

SoCal CAIR condemning the attacks as well a man representing most Southern California mosque.

 

Islamic community getting out in front of this...saying please don't blame Islam or Muslims as what happened is against their faith.

 

This is what we want to hear. This sort of thing would have helped in the wake of 911 and other Islamic terror attacks. To clearly hear Muslim clerics and faithful condemn such attacks as against Islam and human decency would help in public perception. It was the lack of such clear statements in the past that have hurt the perception of Muslims by some in this country.

 

The scariest people in the world are people who kill others on behalf of their God. They have nothing to lose in their mind, and kill senselessly. So sad

 

They are a close second to people who have no belief in God and kill because they have determined morality for themselves and in effect have become their own god. They have nothing to lose in their mind, kill senselessly, and think they are doing evolution a favor by eliminating undesirables. Think Soviet Union, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, etc.

They wanted to be clear that this was not a handgun, (the media goes a little crazy over that and focuses on the gun rather than the perps), and they knew it was a long gun but not specifically which kind--shot gun, hunting rifle, or assault-rifle-look-alike (the media goes a little crazy over the latter and would focus on the gun not the perps).

Another Great Awakening would help, esp. with the senseless killing that occurs every night in big cities and elsewhere. Return to the importance of the family and personal responsibility, etc. It is hard to say what would help with the crazy people who decide they want to kill people for some undecipherable logic that only makes sense to them. But, if the general tenor of society was more positive, more moral, less narcissistic, less ready to blame others, and less saturated with mass immorality and violence in media and music, then maybe there would be fewer crazies who take this route. Evil begets evil.

People really need to wake up and see things for what they are.
