Did Chuck Smith get outcoached by Lexington Catholic?

Featured Replies

Lex Cath is to good to give them the ball around midfield on almost every possession .

Field position is going to be huge starting Round 2. Boyle's Special Teams are not really on par with some of the other top teams in the class and when you get in a game where a every 10 yards of field position will matter it could be a major handicap for them.

What surprised me even more was LexCath turning around and squib kicking as well. After taking the lead they were essentially playing with fire giving Boyle a short field.

The BC o-line didn't protect Josey real well, secondary got burned and there were several dropped passes by the WRs. I wouldn't say Smith was outcoached our guys just got out played.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If you go back to threads from early in the season I have said the run game is not all that great and they were still changing around players on the Oline. Sub par run game being hidden by a passing game that has played very well. Josie did not play well tonight and that's when you have to run it. Did ok but not great. I love all of these kids and always support the rebels but this is not an oline that can win a state championship. That being said it was not all the oline's fault tonight. As I said Josie did not play well for 2/3's the night and dropped passes, a blown coverage. They just simply got outplayed. Congrats to LexCath. They deserved to win the game.

Just my opinion like everybody else on here but looked like Catholic just flat out wanted it worse tonight! The better team won tonight.

BOOM !!!!

Well played

what the great Chuck Smith out coached. Don't forget he was apart of the worst coached UK football team ever!!!!!

Hook & Ladder is great play versus well-coached teams. Defenders are running to ball. Very different angle , especially if the guy that gets the ball can run.

There are schemes out there that are definitely better against well-coached teams that are not great against other teams.

Boyle didn't get out coached. BC receivers kept dropping the ball, and Josiah didn't play his best game, and when he struggles BC struggles. I love the toughness of Max Cox and Nick Roney. I gotta give credit to Catholic they had a great game plan and their defense was flying to the ball. I see now to beat Boyle you gotta put it in the air. Congrats Catholic!

Kill that noise. He was the Linebacker coach and I believe there a couple of LBers that were coached by Chuck playing on Sundays making more money in a week than a lot of us make in a year.

It was perfectly executed and was so so pretty. He grabbed the toss with one hand and was gone. All anyone could say was "wow". It happened so fast and was in slow motion at the same time. Truly an amazing play call and execution at a perfect time.

I thought Corey Swanner played a good game tonight. Surprised me.

...except for the linebacker core, which produced top NCAA/NFL linebackers during his time there thanks to Chuck Smith. Coach Smith may have been out coached in this one game out of 30. It happens. But to insinuate he was on the low level of the entire UK team during the unfortunate lull years is incorrect. Smith was the only shining point in the program.

Herald had him with 174 yards on 29 carries.

@JackLambert I don't get all the squib kicks either. Every once in a while sure but every time? That's putting a lot of pressure on your defense.

I forget the stat but the average KO return puts you around 30 or so (of course unless you have a legitimate kicker). So by onside or squib kicking the stats say you're only giving up about 10 yards of position.
