Someone must have link to agreement between KHSAA and WKU. This situation should be coverened in the terms.

called KHSAA yesterday, was told the games would be at WKU on the weekend that is scheduled, not sure of who will play what day or times but I was told get my hotel from Thursday through Sunday morning like normal and I would see the games.

I would wager that WKU has said IF they host the conference championship (and I'm still not sold Marshall isn't looking for some revenge), they will move it to Nissan Stadium in Nashville like they used to when they played UK. More exposure and bigger stadium for the fans to be in. Plus the parking is better.

Well we're not asking every team to do it just 12 teams. Weather is a crap shoot, it could be cold it could be great. A few years ago we froze at the finals and we were playing golf in shorts the next week.

 

I'd rather give the teams plenty of time than rush them into playing on Thursday.

As you said, weather is a crap shoot. I've been to most finals the last 30 years, and can remember snow blowing in sideways and ice warnings for the state. However, I can remember just as many times when it was in the 50s, 60s and very comfortable. As a matter of fact, I can remember the Friday of the 98 finals when it was in the 70s.

 

I love the finals in BG at WKU, but this will be a major concern on a yearly basis with how great their football program is doing. Richmond and EKU, barf, but could face the same issues with them hosting a 1-AA playoff game that same weekend. Louisville seems to not want any part of it. Lexington/UK is looking like a better option by the day.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but before the 6 class system and the addition of teams to the playoffs like in 80's and early 90's weren't some of the finals played on thanksgiving day and Friday or was it Friday and Saturday after thanksgiving?

I think you are right about mid-80s. I believe the move was made in 1987 when the KHSAA began taking two teams from every district, but it may have even been earlier than that.

 

As for finals on the second weekend of December, that was 2008. I have no idea why, but the season started a week later that season. It was very cold on that Saturday (Bell beat Bullitt East; Fort Campbell beat Newport Catholic).

The only problem with that is the Titans are at home that same weekend. I would be very surprised if Western moved the game away from their home stadium. As for the WKU/UK games a few years back, I think the move to Nashville was more about UK's demands - that was the only way they could get the contract done.

Why on God's earth would they give up their home field for a game of that magnitude?

I asked my boss the exact same question when I worked for the WKU Athletics Department as game-day staff and her response was that the Titans organization allowed us "to do more with game-day activities" than we were able to do in BG (whatever that meant). Although I agree with most everyone here that I would rather see them play a conference championship game in their own home stadium, there's something about playing in Nashville that apparently appeals to the Toppers.
