I think this whole deal is hilarious. U of L could no longer guarantee the first weekend in December. The KHSAA said this was a huge problem. This led to U of L not pursuing the finals any longer.We all heard how Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is too big! It would not be missed. Well, now Commonwealth Stadium is a better fit? Go back to the days when the finals were scattered across the state.

 

There is NO WAY the football finals get pushed back a week and take away from BASKETBALL. I could see the KHSAA opting for playing three on Sunday with one game per weeknight Monday-Tues-Wednesday......once again 6 classes adds to the woes! :dancingpa

It has never been "across the state" except for the years before 1975 when the AAA finals were always in Louisville.

Only one game was played on Sunday. The first two Friday games were played as normal, as were the first two Saturday games. Meade County/Scott County was moved from Friday to Saturday.

The solution for teams needing to dress for the games would be to practice and dress at nearby high schools such as Warren Central, Bowling Green, or South Warren and then take a bus to Houchens Feix Stadium. If BG or South Warren are in the championship, then let schools from other classes use their facility for practice and locker room use. For example, St X or Trinity can use BG's facilities, Mayfield or Pulaski County can use facilities at Warren Central, and DeSales or Male can use the facilities at South Warren.

The one negative about the games being at Western is the locker room situation. Western tries to accommodate as best they can but they just don't have the locker facilities to handle the needs of 3 games in one day.

Any way you cut it, moving the games will probably cut into ticket sales. I think logistics should be the number one concern and playing some of the games during the week, none on Saturday, then back at it on Sunday will be a cluster.

Pushing it back one week only impacts 12 teams...and I'd be willing to bet none of them will complain about rescheduling due to BASKETBALL, if that were to come to pass.

I think WKU is a great place to hold the games. It is small enough and also large enough to do the trick. Locker rooms are not favorable for the teams unless you are the home team and even then it isn't great.

WC is about 5 minutes away, if that. If traffic's not bad, BGHS is about 10 minutes and SW would probably be 20. Greenwood would be closer.

You would think they would already be talking to Male, Bowling Green, South Warren, Boyle County, Highlands, you know the schools we all know that will be playing there, about what they think... Dang, forgot Highlands will not be there this year..hahaha

Well we're not asking every team to do it just 12 teams. Weather is a crap shoot, it could be cold it could be great. A few years ago we froze at the finals and we were playing golf in shorts the next week.

 

I'd rather give the teams plenty of time than rush them into playing on Thursday.

Not fair to any school to ask them to play on Thursday.
