Wonder if any High Schools that might be in state finals have the no activities on Sunday policy?

 

Fayette County for years had a (No Sunday policy) BUT it was waived for post season events that occurred such as this, or if they were playing on a Monday & wanted a Sunday practice. They have now lifted the Sunday ban, but have to give the team (1) day off during the (7) day week if they are practicing on a Sunday.

 

Those districts aren't going to take away something from a student-athlete over an issue like this, they would let them play.

They scheduled the basketball finals on Sunday last season?! Who knows...

Softball was held on a Sunday morning once (granted late Saturday night, but game didn't finish until 2:30 in the morning).

 

Some soccer districts (17th girls, 39th girls, 49th boys) played yesterday (Sunday). Thomas Nelson and the Jessamines held boys' soccer classics on Sunday, August 23 this season.

 

The 2015 JCPS Volleyball tournament (featuring Atherton, Ballard, Brown, Doss, DuPont Manual, Eastern, Fern Creek, J'town, Male, PRP, Seneca, Valley, Waggener, Western) was on Sunday, August 23.

 

And I know many softball teams who have played on Easter Sunday during Spring Break trips to Florida.

 

The Sunday rule is going by the wayside in many instances and surely a schoolboard will wave it if

 

Plus, the BG-Pulaski 5-A final was played on Sunday just two years ago because of weather.

To answer your question.....they'd waive the no activites on Sunday policy.

 

It is a policy for Jefferson County Public Schools no practices or games on Sunday UNLESS there are extraordinary circumstances. The same policy also says no practice or games on a school holiday (Labor Day, Memorial Day etc.) unless there are extraordinary circumstances.

LOL ... I can't believe some of you believe some school district is going to say "No" to a school playing in a state final on a Sunday.

 

By the way, I've asked the KHSAA at least twice what would happen if the CUSA final and KHSAA finals clashed. I've never received an answer from them. But I'm certain there's a plan in place.

 

And I don't think there's any chance CUSA is going to move its final from Saturday. The KHSAA will be the one that has to move something.

 

Total speculation on my part would be: one final Thursday night, three games Friday, two games Sunday.

My bet HS is played Thursday Sunday. Stadium will need to be used for practice. Another problem will be wku locker room. Wow, this will be very hard on logistics

Move the games to Louisville instead of having a mess.

Your right forgot about big east stint from 2005 to 2012.

 

As we get closer and if what looks like a good possibility becomes a likely probability I am sure we will begin to hear plans from WKU AND KHSAA. With the contract being signed with Russell, WKU and others to keep the games in BG till 2018 I can't believe they haven't discussed all possibilities.

 

Also with WKU's athletic director announcing game time changes for their remaining home games I am sure they have started discussions with KHSAA.

Region softball and baseball quarterfinals are on Memorial Day every year. It's been that way as long as I can remember.

Just push the HS finals back one week...push the entire schedule back one week and there are no issues. Schools all get two weeks to prepare for the finals, WKU has full use of their facilities.

I guess they could push the finals back, but some basketball folks will be none too pleased.

 

Shy of Louisville/Kentucky/Eastern hosting instead -- I seriously doubt it --- I'm not sure there is an A-plus contingency plan which will thrill the majority.

 

I guess for WKU it's a "good" program to have, because the ONLY way it's an issue ... is if your program is playing for a title.

Yup.

 

And depending on when Christmas and New Years falls, there are several winter break basketball games played on the Sunday around both those holidays.

Like I said, the Sunday/Holiday rule is long overdue to be put out to pasture.

 

We've been having district soccer games -- and even region soccer games -- on Sundays in the 17th District/5th Region for about 5 years now I think (and these are all public schools with the lone exception of Catholic Bardstown Bethlehem).

 

And with the weather the way it was Memorial Day 2015, Softball and baseball tourneys for region should have played that Sunday (because you could still get in four games that day). The 3rd Region softball tournament became a cluster because they refused to play Sunday and then Monday was a complete washout. With school still in session, parents at work and a far region to drive across (as opposed to Louisville or NKY), it was impossible to get the four quarterfinals in on Tuesday or Wednesday all at the same site (assuming you only use one field).

 

Hence the four-game baseball/softball region Memorial Monday schedule we've grown used to. People who are opposed to Sunday/Holiday games are going to have a hard time convincing me there's a better way to schedule it while avoiding Sundays/Holidays.
