A clarification question and comment:

 

The times listed above are: Thursday at 8 PM, Saturday at 6 pm and 9 pm and Sunday at 2 pm, 5 pm and 8 pm.

 

The Question: Since the KHSAA usually list the game times on their website as local BG (central time) times. I am assuming that they have kept with that protocal, am I right or have they listed them as Eastern times since the KHSAA offices are in Eastern time?

 

If they are using Central times as has been their norm, that means the games are actually 9 PM on Friday , 7 PM and 10 PM on Saturday and 1 PM, 4:30 PM and 8 PM in the Eastern time zone. Since at least one team in the A final, and possibly both (as 24 of the 31 teams playing are form Eastern time) will be from the Eastern time zone, that is awfully late for a game and then many fans driving home to school or work on Friday.

 

Same problem with the Sunday night 4A championship and work or school on Monday, especially for Johnson Central.

 

The release said the times were listed as EST.

What has to happen for WKU to host or not host the Conference USA Championship?

 

Is it as simple as the winner of the Marshall/WKU game or more complicated?

Will any of the 1A Semi Finals opt to play on Thanksgiving night to give the winner a full week to prepare for the finals?

A good high school football game after eating turkey all day would be awesome.

 

I think the KHSAA requires Friday playoff games unless situations are unavoidable. Examples: Covington Catholic games on Saturday; Christian County and Hopkinsville share a stadium.

This schedule sucks, the khsaa has bent over for Rawlings money, the games were moved from Louisville because of the same stadium situation, if this schedule stands this will be the lowest attendance ever for a finals weekend.

To complicate things a little further. There is a Lady Topper basketball game scheduled at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Also, most students will not be going home that weekend, finals begin the following Monday.

It's a recipe for disaster.

 

Not a big deal to me. Only the media and very few paying non-media people will attend all 6 games. It ain't hard to plan for if folks really want to see all 6 games and you get a day off in between. The Sweet 16 has more games and covers a longer period of time. I love every second of it. Nothing else matters then. If folks love high school football like that then they'll put on their big boy pants and suck it up. Way too many people whining about this issue. WKU is still the best spot for the finals until the KHSAA decides to build a football complex somewhere capable of hosting the state finals. I'm not going to root against WKU just so folks can have a day less of their state finals weekend.

 

When it was still in Louisville I made it a point to attend all the games. Since it left i have only ever gone to the 6A game.

Pretty much. They left Louisville because they couldn't guarantee the stadium, now we are in the same boat as before. What gives?
