The KHSAA is not allowing common sense to play a role. The best solution is to move it. The current solution is not Fan or school friendly.

To complicate things a little further. There is a Lady Topper basketball game scheduled at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Also, most students will not be going home that weekend, finals begin the following Monday.

It's a recipe for disaster.

 

If there had not been any complications the finals would have been on Friday/Saturday. That women's game on Saturday would be in conflict no matter what. I don't blame WKU for the football stuff (it couldn't be helped), but I put scheduling a women's game on the day of the finals on WKU, not the KHSAA.

Pretty much. They left Louisville because they couldn't guarantee the stadium, now we are in the same boat as before. What gives?

 

When the contract with WKU was signed, Western was in the Sun Belt, a league that didn't have a championship game. Now they have moved leagues and the same guarantees can't be made. I suspect the title games will move after this contract expires because WKU can't make any promises.

1976 was the only year Commonwealth hosted. Stoll Field at UK hosted every year but one (1967) from 1959-72. After '76, the finals moved to EKU for two years before settling at Cardinal Stadium in 1979 and remaining until 2002. Papa John's Stadium had opened a few years prior but the KHSAA didn't move because it didn't have turf like Cardinal Stadium. I suspect with the new turf down at Commonwealth and the SEC championship game always the same weekend as the state finals, UK will look more and more appealing to the KHSAA.

Is the current process for proposed host cities/stadiums to put bids in for the Championship games? I think it is. With that in place, you can yell out all the stadiums in KY you want, but until you get a sponsor to back it you won't get it!

Manual Stadium: Is the oldest football stadium in Kentucky. It was home to the Kentucky High School State Championship games for Class AAA from 1959 to 1963. The stadium has a capaticy of 11,463, but can accommodate for over 15,000.

I know this is purely hypothetical. What if the powers that be at JCPS turfed this stadium. I know that parking is an issue. I know that locker room are terrible. I know that it is not a college campus. I know that I am missing other issues. (I'm sure you guys will gladly point them out for me). There are plenty of issues, but what an atmospehere!

BigMelon...having attended games at BOTH Feix Field (WKU) and Commonwealth (UK) I can tell you that is not a good idea. There would be ZERO atmosphere at Commonwealth for a High School game. We have yet to sell out WKU (capacity 22,113) and you want to move to Commonwealth (capacity 61,000)?!?!?!

 

How many of you realize the lengths WKU goes to for the KHSAA and State Championship Football games? Being a WKU student when the games first moved to WKU, I can tell you it's incredible. Students are REQUIRED to vacate both Parking Structure 1 (the older one) AND Egypt (Creason Lot, the one beside the soccer/softball complex) no later than Thursday night at 8pm or risk a major fine and be towed. In addition, WKU shuts down Parking Structure 2 (the newer one) for commuters allowing KHSAA fans to attend and use that structure. May not seem like a big deal to some, but when there are roughly 200 more permits than parking spots for students, it's a HUGE deal! They also in response to the locker room situation shut down a large portion of the on-campus gym so teams can dress there. One year, I was told by the tech guy who coordinates music and replays that WKU even allowed the KHSAA to use (FREE OF CHARGE MIND YOU) the actual laptop WKU uses for their athletic events. The program alone on that laptop is $2000 folks.

 

Complain all you want, but WKU has bent over backwards to try and accommodate the KHSAA and the fans that attend that weekend. UofL and UK are too big to host this event. I would rather have a killer atmosphere and the game be exciting than go to a Power 5 Stadium where there's no atmosphere and no fun. Besides...what's more important: the athletes who are out on the field (who I have yet to hear a complaint from BTW) who have rode a bus for hours on end many times, or all of us who drive for 2-3 hours (or longer) to watch those kids who have worked hard to be there?

 

I'm sure I'm going to get blasted by many on here for my comments, but I stand behind them. This isn't about us folks, it's about the coaches and athletes who have sweat, bled and worked to be there. I hear more complaints from the fans than I do the coaches and players...think about that one.

I'm telling you guys.
