  1. LaRue is still a year or two from challenging for a Regional title. Give Coach Jaggers and his staff until next year and that could be the case. I see them as District runners-up this season, and going to Princeton and giving Caldwell a good game...but Regional title?? Not sure I see that happening this season.
  2. Things are shaping up to get interesting in the 5th Region with this one. Central now becomes the 2 seed in the 17th and will play John Hardin 1st round.
  3. Have to say congrats to Coach Anthony Boone for being named the new principal at Munfordville School! Great coach and amazing man who will do great things as an administrator I'm sure.
  4. The only thing I have to add in terms of rebuttal to you ATL is don't underestimate E-town. Mark Brown knows how to win (look at his John Hardin dynasty he built before retiring for the first time), and even when decimated by graduation finds a way. E-town could very easily be a top 10 team come November if not earlier.
  5. Having been there in person, it should have been 14-7 at half. Central scored on busted coverage. Plain and simple. Game should have been a touchdown game at half. Central also didn't pull many of their starters at the end of the game...maybe 2-3. Again, I was there and kept track. On the words exchange, there may not have been any tense words spoken, but from where I was standing after the game it seemed to get rather tense. And I wasn't the only one who got that impression.
  6. I've said it before, John Hardin is hard to beat in Bulldog Stadium. Injuries or not, JH expects (and usually does) win in this stadium regardless of who they play. JH 35 Spencer 21
  7. Adair has surprised me this season...I'll go ahead and say it. I wasn't expecting them to win last weekend against Union. But this week I believe Caldwell has too much for the Indians to handle, especially with a trip to Princeton playing under the daunting watchful eye of their Tiger painted on the gym. Caldwell 49 Adair 14
  8. E-town vs. Tilghman. I have to say I wasn't on board with Etown to start the year, but I can see them winning this week and pushing Caldwell next. Mark Brown has turned around a faltering program quickly and I look for E-town to stay consistently a top 15 team until he retires (again). If I don't head over to Bulldog Stadium across town for the John Hardin vs. Spencer County game I may be heading to Panther Stadium to watch these two titan programs battle.
  9. This one could be a classic. For those who are unaware, Meade held their own against the Bruins during the regular season, going toe to toe with Central until roughly the mid-4th quarter when a combination of blown coverage and good timed play calling for the Bruins iced the game away. After the game, some who watched the handshake appeared to see the two coaches exchange some words. I like Central Hardin to pull it out, but I'm feeling some fireworks in Cecilia Friday night when Meade comes rumbling in. Bruins 35 Greenwave 31
  10. That we know of...C-USA has some strict guidelines the Sub Belt never had. With all that said, let's wait and see what happens later this month at LT-Smith Stadium when "The Herd" comes Thunderin' in (pun intended). Don't forget folks, WKU ended Marshall's bid at a perfect conference season last year. And we all know WKU has struggled when the offense can't get going (remember when La Tech came in earlier this season?!), and ole Doc can coach.
  11. Franklin County has a MAJOR uphill battle and I don't see that upset happening. You have to play nearly flawless ball to win in Bulldog Stadium. John Hardin is a machine on that field. It took a miracle for mighty BG to win there a few years ago remember. Away from it though...
  12. BigMelon...having attended games at BOTH Feix Field (WKU) and Commonwealth (UK) I can tell you that is not a good idea. There would be ZERO atmosphere at Commonwealth for a High School game. We have yet to sell out WKU (capacity 22,113) and you want to move to Commonwealth (capacity 61,000)?!?!?! How many of you realize the lengths WKU goes to for the KHSAA and State Championship Football games? Being a WKU student when the games first moved to WKU, I can tell you it's incredible. Students are REQUIRED to vacate both Parking Structure 1 (the older one) AND Egypt (Creason Lot, the one beside the soccer/softball complex) no later than Thursday night at 8pm or risk a major fine and be towed. In addition, WKU shuts down Parking Structure 2 (the newer one) for commuters allowing KHSAA fans to attend and use that structure. May not seem like a big deal to some, but when there are roughly 200 more permits than parking spots for students, it's a HUGE deal! They also in response to the locker room situation shut down a large portion of the on-campus gym so teams can dress there. One year, I was told by the tech guy who coordinates music and replays that WKU even allowed the KHSAA to use (FREE OF CHARGE MIND YOU) the actual laptop WKU uses for their athletic events. The program alone on that laptop is $2000 folks. Complain all you want, but WKU has bent over backwards to try and accommodate the KHSAA and the fans that attend that weekend. UofL and UK are too big to host this event. I would rather have a killer atmosphere and the game be exciting than go to a Power 5 Stadium where there's no atmosphere and no fun. Besides...what's more important: the athletes who are out on the field (who I have yet to hear a complaint from BTW) who have rode a bus for hours on end many times, or all of us who drive for 2-3 hours (or longer) to watch those kids who have worked hard to be there? I'm sure I'm going to get blasted by many on here for my comments, but I stand behind them. This isn't about us folks, it's about the coaches and athletes who have sweat, bled and worked to be there. I hear more complaints from the fans than I do the coaches and players...think about that one.
  13. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD (and realize that my sources weren't the best) it all happened right in front of Green's bench after the officials had let things get overly chippy. LaRue's coaches pulled all the kids back and if the Hawks had any bench players leave the bench area, it wasn't but one or two, which is honestly still too many. With it being right in front of Green's bench, they had several leave from what I was told, and it took their coaches a long time to restore order on their side (some told me they never did). Again, all what I was told from others who were there. Also heard from a few others that Green had a kid turn around after order was restored and flip off the entire LaRue student section?! If that's true, then this may get ugly fast.
  14. Clinton Co, McCreary Central and Phelps all 3 are not placed in a district and will end their seasons this weekend. Those who were placed: Berea Hancock County Trimble County Allen Central Betsy Layne Trigg County LaRue County Moore Thomas Nelson Lewis County Pendleton County Morgan County* Knott Central* Magoffin County* (The 3 above are in a 3-way tie and are waiting on final tiebreaker to be official) Logan County Warren East North Oldham Marion County Russell County Mason County Boyd County East Carter Marshall County Nelson County Oldham County Iroquois Atherton Perry Central All (with the exception of 1 of the from 3A District 7 in the tie-breaker) above WILL NOT qualify for playoffs and either already have this past weekend or will this weekend end their seasons.
  15. I'm going to say 3-3 with Murray making the biggest statement. After last season's ending against DeSales, I have a sneaking suspicion the Tigers are looking to get on a roll and avoid a repeat in the playoffs. Murray upsets PT and goes on a roll into the playoffs.
  16. my bad...just re-read it. You can't count the games against teams you're tied with, but you can count district games.
  17. yes it does Cats...you can't use district teams for the tie-breaker. Says so in the bylaws on the KHSAA page.
  18. I asked my boss the exact same question when I worked for the WKU Athletics Department as game-day staff and her response was that the Titans organization allowed us "to do more with game-day activities" than we were able to do in BG (whatever that meant). Although I agree with most everyone here that I would rather see them play a conference championship game in their own home stadium, there's something about playing in Nashville that apparently appeals to the Toppers.
  19. I would wager that WKU has said IF they host the conference championship (and I'm still not sold Marshall isn't looking for some revenge), they will move it to Nissan Stadium in Nashville like they used to when they played UK. More exposure and bigger stadium for the fans to be in. Plus the parking is better.
  20. Etown names the score sadly. LaRue is a program with a new coach, new system of play that is VASTLY different from what they have run since their Regional title in 1991 (Newton, Brown, Armes and Jaggers all ran run-heavy offenses in the Wing-T and Wishbone), and a group of players that while they give all they have, are still a large group of sophomores with a mix of juniors and seniors. Plain and simple they are young. Next year and the year after will be the time when if the Hawks want to make any noise in 3A they need to. Next great group of athletes who are male is in this year's 6th and 7th grade groups. It also hurts when the best athletes in the school are all females. Great group of young men but the athletic ability is lacking at LaRue and will be until this freshmen and sophomore group steps into their own. I can tell you as a Hawk alum the best I was hoping for this season was a playoff appearance. The talent just isn't there right now to be realistically in the title hunt.
  21. If I calculate this correctly (and I may not...so don't hold me to it) Adair-8 Edmonson- 6 Hart- 9 Based on this, Hart is #2, Adair is #3 and Edmonson is #4. District teams can't be used, and they calculate the top 4 you played whom you beat. This would change if Casey loses to Adair. So...if Hart BEATS Adair, it would come down to a win for Adair over Casey it looks like. But I just can't see Hart beating Adair without some major luck.
  22. Ok...we all need some clarification and correction here because some have no clue about the rules. STRAIGHT FROM THE KHSAA HANDBOOK: L) Use of Visible Play Clocks 1. During the regular season, if a host school has a twenty-five second clock on both ends of the playing field and both are operable, they are to be used without mutual agreement of the opponent. 2) During the regular season, if a host school has a twenty- five second clock at only one end of the field, the host school must acquire permission from the visiting team before the clock may be used. The officials, absent a clock malfunction, may not order the play clock not to be used. 3. During the playoffs, if a host school has a twenty-five second clock on both ends of the playing field and both are operable, they are to be used. 4) During the playoffs, if a host school has a twenty-five second clock at only one end of the field, the clock shall not be used. 5) The 25-second field clocks are the official delay of game timepieces. 6) The 25-second clock operator will work under the supervision of the BJ and will report to him before the game for instructions in or near the officials’ dressing room. 7) The 25 Second Clock Operator will be instructed to: a) Set the clock display to 25 seconds before the game starts. b) Start 25-second clock on the Referee’s Ready-for-Play signal or Wind-the-Clock signal, whichever comes first. c) Leave display at ‘00’ seconds if there is a delay of game penalty called until Referee has completed his signals to the press box after enforcing the delay of game penalty. d) Reset display immediately to 25 seconds when ball is put in play (snapped) if there is no delay foul called. e) Reset display to 25 seconds anytime Referee interrupts 25-second count and gives the reset signal (palm up with pumping arm motion). f) Turn off both displays should either 25 second clock malfunction or become inoperative. Both 25- second clocks will not operate again until the problem is corrected and both 25-second clocks are working. Both coaches will be notified immediately if the 25-second clock is no longer official. The 25-second count will then be kept on the field by the BJ on his watch. When doing this, BJ raises his hand when 10 seconds remain in the 25-second count. g) Do not use 25-second clock when less than 25 seconds remain in any period if the game clock IS running. If 25-second clock is mistakenly started in this situation, DO NOT stop game or game clock to correct. If the game clock is not running when less than 25 seconds remaining in any period, then the 25-second clock is used. h) NOTE: If the 25-second clock is erroneously started, it shall be stopped immediately. The BJ may be asked to help the Referee determine the amount of time lost when the clock is stopped for reasons beyond the circumstances of either team. The amount of time run off the 25-second clock can be used to determine the amount of lost time Basically: if the school has a two play clocks that work, they're used. If they only have one, BOTH teams must agree to it. In the playoffs, it's 2 working clocks or none at all.
  23. I preface this by saying I've grown up HATING Etown...but I'm taking them in this one. The Panthers don't do anything spectacular other than play old school-Mark Brown smashmouth football, and for sure won't do anything overly flashy but they seem to be finding a way to get things done. Plus, Etown has been a little more battle tested than Adair. Etown 35 Adair 14
  24. I think it's Etown's game to lose. My sources from Raider nation tell me one of their top players is out for this game, maybe longer with an injury. While that isn't confirmed, he DID NOT play against LaRue. Hart has so few numbers, 1 or 2 injuries kills their chances. Now...with that said, Hart's D is a run stopper for sure, and they proved they can hang with a passing team in Union (argue all you want, but I've seen and heard from multiple people it was a shoot-out in Munfordville with Union passing and Hart doing what they do best). E-town HAS to find a way to run on Hart or rely on their passing game which having watched them play twice in person I have seen little to none of. This could either be an ugly game for the Raiders, or one that opens people's eyes to what I've been telling folks all year: Hart is NOT the Hart of old this season and could pull an upset or two and make a playoff run if they're overlooked. E-town 35 Hart 24 But if the injury rumor is true, it could be more like Etown 42 Hart 14
  25. From what I've seen and heard this season, 3A is one of the top classes from top to bottom this season. I have to agree Boyle is #1 based on their resume and Belfry is number 2. Should Belfry beat Cabel this weekend they are #1 in my mind and Boyle number 2. However, as an old friend of mine is fond of saying, "all that matters is who is holding up that trophy at the end of the year!" I will say Hart is going to surprise some folks. They had Union on the ropes until a pick-6 for the Braves with under 2 minutes to play. Yes, Hart had trouble putting away a struggling LaRue team Friday, but when you run a wide-open offense and can't do what you like to do, you're going ot struggle. The weather played a huge roll in that game this past weekend. I'm looking for some shoot-outs between Districts 1 and 2 come post-season!
