  1. Unless you live in or around Lex/Louisville or NKY charter buses become very difficult to afford. The bus companies start charging when they leave their shop, if you are 2 hours away you get charged for the 2 hours drive time and 150 miles for the bus to get to you and back after your trip. Depending how far you are away from the companies, a one day trip can get in the 4 to 5 thousand range for 1 bus, if you need 2, double that.
  2. Believe what you want, it was not even muddy that night, sorry you only play on turf.
  3. It had rained 3 days the week Lloyd played in Grayson, stop with that crap. And it was no where near what the weather was Friday.
  4. EKU and WKU both seat 20,000+, Murray is at least 15,000. I think EKU or WKU can host it easily.
  5. Its not just locker rooms, it's getting one game done, all the celebrations and both teams packed up and off the field, then the next teams getting set up and ready to go. It's a state title game, don't screw a team up off a normal schedule of pre-game, just so people can have a hot dog and watch the next game.
  6. I liked when we only played 2 a day and played Fri, Sat, Sun. Then it changed to Thurs, Fri, Sat You have to have the gap between games to get teams in and out, also if people come for all the games it is nice to be able to go get food at some point during the day and not live off $7 bad hot dogs. Most people going to all the games, want to make a weekend out of it.
  7. Only problem with Bowling Green is for Eastern KY its a long trip which hurts attendance, the event was better at WKU but the travel sucked. KHSAA will never move it from Lexington, they could move it to EKU and have a smaller venue with easier travel for most of the state would really be the only option. I think Georgetown would be too small.
  8. Dropping out of the district is not a decision for most schools. It is really an option for the lowest achieving teams in the state, if you are debating on dropping from the district as a Coach, you are aware you have 0% of a team set up for success in the next few years. let's face it, most people in the state don't have a clue about any other school. If we win games people are happy and you get more people excited, if you lose, interest from kids and the community die with it. The state has made it very difficult for schools to drop. With our schedule having certain weeks that all district games are played, if you are nondistrict, you only have out-of-state teams or others who have dropped to play so it is difficult to schedule. To me, the answer is go with the Ohio model, if you think you have a team that can compete, schedule for it. If you know you can't schedule some games you think are competitive, end the year 6-4 and try to get more kids and excitement and try to build for the future, not all schools have the resources to compete for state titles.
  9. Short version of the situation. Very late, right before the season started they decided to create a 4th class for football. All games had already been long scheduled. They set their playoffs by computer ranking similar to RPI. Where the fight has started is how to calculate games. Example a game was scheduled as a 3a vs 3a school, at the last second the state changes one team to 4a, does that count as two teams playing in the same class, or one team playing a class up? The state decided one way to count it and the playoffs were set, some of the schools that were left out because of this technicality went to court, the court changed the playoffs, when they changed it, it knocked other schools out of the playoffs, now they have gone to court saying they should be in and two different judges have ruled in favor of both groups. So now they have to wait on the courts to decide what to do because the state screwed everything up big time. Its a complete mess.
  10. Yes, there were, I know Pendleton County dropped out in 3A for sure,
  11. Here is the problem on the knee pads, Nike, Adidas, Under Armour all make the pants that short because of college and NFL. If a kid is over 5'8" it is hard for the pants to be long enough to cover the knee like the rule states. Most kids have to tug and stretch them to get the length to cover the knee totally.
  12. this is one of the main reasons it is so hard to build a program. Unless you are in a place where the school has multiple teaching openings and you have guys willing to move. If you move to a different area of the state building a staff is gonna be a crap shoot. You are going to be hiring guys you don't know and then hoping it all works together, very underrated part of being an HC is being able to find guys and making it all work together.
  13. Unless there is some issue not known to the public, this is a HUGE mistake on their part. Coach Marcum did a great job with that program.
  14. This is never even looked at because it does not matter to central KY teams around Lexington, so it is never thought of, that if your school is on a border, you just lost 50% of the reasonable travel options you have.
  15. this is why there needs to be adjustments to RPI and playoff selection should be done off of that instead of districts. There are places where you may have 3 top 10 teams in the state in a single district and other districts where the champion is .500. If the goal is to get the best teams in the playoffs, your location should not matter, try to get the best teams in. I'd vote to do away with districts totally if given the option.
