October 4, 201510 yr Yeah, this was a real stinker, a classic case of playing to the level of your competition, but given the atmosphere that Auburn and Louisville will bring, I will be very surprised if Kentucky doesn't get one of these! The improved talent level sticks out like a sore thumb! Stoops is building this program from the ground up and Kentuckys future is in good hands!
October 4, 201510 yr Very impressive the way UK pulled it out at the end.....2 TDs in the last 6 minutes or so. Ironically, that can be a sign of a good team. UK's basketball teams do it all the time. I don't see who the leaders are on UK's team. PT seems to want to be a leader but some of his comments ring hollow to me and I wonder if his teammates fully embrace them. UK needed a leader for the first 54 minutes of the game to right the ship. You can't be a good team without leadership IMO.
October 4, 201510 yr First of off, I was suprised to see the sun come up this morning! I don't believe that you can point the finger at any one player or coach, they all performed like crap for 95% of the day. UK came in with a ho-hum attitude, thinking EKU was going to be an easy cupcake. And then, Stoops was already talking about playing the reserves days before the game ever started. On the other hand, EKU was pumped as ever to have the ability to knock off an SEC opponent. They also had a chip on their shoulder from both the off field incident, and the bulletin board material of Stoops talking about getting the reserves a bunch of reps. All this added up to the perfect stotm- UK should have never poked the little wolverine, he got mad and went crazy on them. If UK had played like they did in the last 10 minutes of the game for the first 10 minutes of the game they would have broke EKU"S spirit. Instead they had to play like mad men just to get a OT win against a much smaller school. Towles did not play good for most of the game, but you have to start passing out the blame at the top on this one. Update thread was talking about UK's O-line being terrible. Could that be the reason Towles looked so bad?
October 4, 201510 yr Disappointed to say the least at how we played. But the talent is there and this team has proven that they can run with the big boys now. Door is still open for the SEC east of the cats knock off some teams they aren't expected to.
October 4, 201510 yr The eku o-line pushed uk off the ball 3 to 4 yards on every running play, that's an sec d-line? Maybe we can get Dane Damron to call our plays. There are winable games left, but if that uk team shows up im not sure there are more than 1 win left. On that note, let me give props to Beechwood grad Brett Eyckmans. He has been a starter on EKU's line at tackle since his freshman year. This year he is one of their captains. Eyckmans has a very legitimate shot at playing at the next level.
October 4, 201510 yr Update thread was talking about UK's O-line being terrible. Could that be the reason Towles looked so bad? Partly. He has to get better at throwing the ball away and not taking sacks.
October 4, 201510 yr I think it was @jlow who said it best.....how many times have we seen UK teams lose a game like that? Down 14 with 8 minutes left in the game? 99% of the time they lose that game regardless of the opponent. As bad as they were they made another positive step last night.
October 4, 201510 yr If you can't run the ball it'll be a long night for anybody. O line flat out got whipped for 3 1/2 Qtrs. On a side note: Shut up and grow up Boom. You really hurt your team. Cats were extremely lucky to get the win.
October 4, 201510 yr I'd like to ask that Cat fans and Colonel fans alike keep the young men from EKU in your thoughts as they get on a bus and head up to say goodbye to their teammate. After such a heartbreaking loss it has to be even tougher. Hopefully they earned your respect last night, today I'm asking for your prayers.
October 4, 201510 yr The problems I have with Towels. (1) He needs to start learning how to throw the ball away when being chased and no open receivers, it's better to throw it away rather than taking a 10-15 yard loss or more. (2) He needs to stop airmailing passes, the receivers are not as tall as you are and can't jump that high to catch a pass. (3) way too inconsistent. He's good then he's not good, good, not good. Those are the problems I have with Towels.
October 4, 201510 yr Towles played better after they made O-line changes. Mosier was getting beat every play along with most of the line. I can't believe they won as eku dominated three and a half quarters. Pony pucks! He gave up two sacks, one he was latched on and Towles needs to step up in the pocket. Two, he was hurt and was playing with one arm. Watch the game he was doing well against a two year starter from OSU. Three count how many defenders in the box at one time. Linebackers were three yards off the ball and stunting. They were going to deny UK the run and make they beat them by the pass. UK was looking at the next road and EKU was playing with emotion.
October 4, 201510 yr If I'm Stoops and Dawson for now on I'm not running my pie hole, saying Barker will play. EKU took offense to it, noob mistake by UK.
October 4, 201510 yr Partly. He has to get better at throwing the ball away and not taking sacks. I agree. However many times he has no chance to do even that.
