October 4, 201510 yr Headscratching call of the game that almost lost the game for UK. Down 20-13 and forced to punt backed up in their own territory, Stoops puts in backup punter who proceeds to punt it 21 yards and it was returned to the UK 25 yard line where EKU proceeds to punch it in to go up 27-13. You have a all-american type senior punter and you put in that backup late in the game? Its very interesting that Stoops talks about if the "older" guys dont produce he will go with the younger players but its interesting that the "older" players who are seniors is the class that he didnt recruit. Zac West didnt even get in the game against Mizzou.
October 4, 201510 yr I don't know how you walk out of that game and say Towles was an issue. Sure for the 1st half he was brutal, but his play in the 2nd half won UK the game. OLine is still an issue. DLine was terrible outside of CJ Johnson. Linebackers couldn't tackle. Secondary was softer than cotton. Kicking game sucked. But..... UK won. A 7 point win counts the same as a 50 point win. Move on to the bye week and beat Auburn Well people can say he was an issue because people can say his play in the first half was one of the reasons why he had to play well in the second half to make up for it. If he played the first half like he did the last few drives they wouldn't have been in that situation. The one thing Towles has proven his two years as the starter is that he has the talent to be very good. However he also has proven to be consistently inconsistent. He can make some plays that completley wow you and then look horrible for a whole half and look more like a backup than a starter. He has the ability its just the same thing as last year and that is being inconsistent.
October 4, 201510 yr Colonels came to play. I'm proud of every single one of them. They were the better team for most of the game. Credit to UK for making the plays when they had to. That was a perfect pass against good coverage on 4th and goal to force OT. Great effort by an Eastern Kentucky team that had a rough week emotionally and played without their leading receiver, starting center and leading tackler. They left it all out on the field.
October 4, 201510 yr No reason for anybody to believe/think UK will beat Auburn or Louisville right now other than hoping that's what happens. Charlotte and Vandy should be two wins though. Everything about this game was awful. With that said I think UK is more than capable of beating Louisville and Auburn. However they can't play like crap and keep winning which is exactly what they did tonight.
October 4, 201510 yr A win is better than a loss. That's about all one can say. A lot of the UK Players (especially D. Baker) were chest thumping, look at me crap for doing what they were supposed to do.... make a catch over an FCS team d-back to draw the game that you were supposed to win going away to a chance at an overtime. Had the official had seen Bakers antics then there would had no doubt been a very costly penalty at a crucial time ... pure stupidity ! I absolutely hate seeing any player on any team ever do that. As the old saying goes, "act like you have been in the end zone before and plan on doing it again". Hand the ball to the official and go to the sideline. U.K. played a little over 1 qtr. in the way they should have for four qtrs. I was really impressed with EKU, they came in and took it to the Cats and whipped U.K. untill obviously overall better talent and conditioning took it's toll. U.K, was out played, out executed. EKU was far better prepared for this game than U.K. and imo probably should have won. I am glad that UK got this win, I really am but I have to go back to "what in the crap are you celebrating" ? Finally waking up and having to make a comeback to beat EKU ...In OT ? Cats should take the win, et in and out of the showers and go home. I didn't mean to go off when I started this post but the more I thought about Baker and others actions, the madder I became. Again, Glad to get a Win, is better than a loss. Have to play much better next time out.
October 4, 201510 yr What was the deal with the kicker tonight for UK? The regular guy hurt or was Stoops giving someone else an opportunity? MacGinnis was injured.
October 4, 201510 yr Towles played better after they made O-line changes. Mosier was getting beat every play along with most of the line. I can't believe they won as eku dominated three and a half quarters.
October 4, 201510 yr The Colonels gave it their all. You can't ask for more than that. I hope this game and the death of Joey Kraemer didn't take too much out of them emotionally. They have an OVC title to win. COLONEL UP!!!!!
October 4, 201510 yr Props to Conner alum Taylor Miller for his reception on EKU's last scoring drive.
October 4, 201510 yr I'm tired of hearing the name Drew Barker. Each time he is mentioned, it's a distraction. Towles is the QB. Thanks Boom Williams for being selfish and being a distraction. Last night was partly on your shoulders. I hope you learn from it and move on. It was a terrible game for UK but they managed to win and that's all that matters. The play at the end of regulation was terrible but Baker made a play. Kentucky got very lucky.
October 4, 201510 yr The eku o-line pushed uk off the ball 3 to 4 yards on every running play, that's an sec d-line? Maybe we can get Dane Damron to call our plays. There are winable games left, but if that uk team shows up im not sure there are more than 1 win left.
October 4, 201510 yr UK outplayed in every way for 75% of the game. They are not good enough to take any team lightly. Hopefully they learned that last night. If they did they have several winnable games left. If they didn't they could finish like last year.
October 4, 201510 yr I think Stoops should have given the Game to to EKU coaching staff for crapping down their legs when they went up 2 scores. Next defensive series they sat back and wasn't aggressive like the first 55 min of the game. Then when they got ball back they did nothing to try and use time in the clock. EKU staff should have had to walk back to Richmond - because the kids play their butts off. Coaches mess it up in the end. As for UK - Dawson play calling was suspect for 55 minutes. He seemed like he was in a funk like the team.
October 4, 201510 yr First of off, I was suprised to see the sun come up this morning! I don't believe that you can point the finger at any one player or coach, they all performed like crap for 95% of the day. UK came in with a ho-hum attitude, thinking EKU was going to be an easy cupcake. And then, Stoops was already talking about playing the reserves days before the game ever started. On the other hand, EKU was pumped as ever to have the ability to knock off an SEC opponent. They also had a chip on their shoulder from both the off field incident, and the bulletin board material of Stoops talking about getting the reserves a bunch of reps. All this added up to the perfect stotm- UK should have never poked the little wolverine, he got mad and went crazy on them. If UK had played like they did in the last 10 minutes of the game for the first 10 minutes of the game they would have broke EKU"S spirit. Instead they had to play like mad men just to get a OT win against a much smaller school. Towles did not play good for most of the game, but you have to start passing out the blame at the top on this one.
