I was told by an Ockermans parent when he was there he went to 3 straight Championships so that would make 4 out of the last 5.

Beechwood's 6th&7th won rather easily over Sharp. I left after the 7th grade game so I don't know who won the 8th..

The game was at Sharp and the refereeing was a little sketchy to say the least. Some times to the point where all you can do is laugh..

SV 7th grade looks like a team that will improve - coach does a very good job as evident by his team's 7th grade championship last year.

I'm sure a long way to go to match Highlands level, but I'm betting on a successful year regardless.

 

Pius 6th grade doesn't have much size, but some nice players. Point guard has terrific handles for his age. Nice pull up Jumper as well.

SV has a very skilled 6th grader as well. Not sure of name - good height, dribbles well & can finish. I'm sure a top player in league.

There have been many comments and discussions on this thread and others talking about the best players etc. With the thread clear I want to acknowledge a certain player.

 

One young man was mentioned earlier but didn't get much steam. The last two days I've watched Jay Jackson (8th grader at Blessed Sacrament) put on a shooting bonanza. Yesterday he was 7/7 and today he was 5/6 all from three point range. I've watch Jay grow up since he was 6 or 7 years old playing baseball and I'm really proud of the young man and player he has become.

 

Fall of 2014 we were playing in the SWOH fall league and towards the end of the season he and his parents came to me asking if I could help find him a shooting coach. Up to that point Jay was a streaky 3 man. He was physical with a great left hand. But, his shooting was very inconsistent. I got him hooked up Brad Redford who is an assistant from Xavier University. Jay started working and working. He started working as hard as any kid I've ever coached. Over the years I've had very few that are as driven as Jay. He is the president of his 8th grade class and as good a young man you can find.

 

But, don't be fooled by the perception he is a three point shooter only. His game is that of a shooting four man that can handle the ball. He's willing to defend the biggest kid on the opposing team and his brain allows him to block shots and rebound against kids you wouldn't expect.

I'm proud of you young man.

 

He just continues to get better and better and he is a really nice kid.

 

Every game I have coached against him (AAU and this year when Beechwood played BSS) he makes it a point to say hello and after games win or lose gives a firm handshake and says, "Good game."

 

He actually tapped me on the shoulder during warmups before our game with BSS just to reach out his hand and say, "Hello."

 

I really enjoy seeing kids who work hard on their game have it pay off for them and it really appears it has for him.

 

He has gone from a standstill almost set shooter, to having the ability to drive, shoot off the dribble and even shoot a step-back.

 

Glad he's getting kudos on here, because he is an emerging player and a terrific young man.

Update from Hebron:

 

Colts win 6th and 7th grade games @ Holmes on Saturday (11/21). No update for the 8th grade.

 

6th and 7th win over Campbell County tonight (Tuesday 11/24). 7th grade game was very close, Colts win by 2 due to a player from Campbell County draining a half court shot at the buzzer...Always fun to watch the half court shots go in and your team still wins.

 

Conner will be off until Monday, they play Ockerman @ Ockerman on the 30th and then pay the Bluebirds a visit on the 3rd of December.

Watched part of the first quarter of 7th grade boys Highlands vs IHM. IHM was up by about 6 when I left. Who won?

 

Very impressed with Wyatt Vieth. Really nice ball handling skills for a a tall kid.

As of now I would say Camp Ernest is top 4. I haven't seen Ockerman yet so can't say which team would be knocked out.

Totally agree about Jay. Plays hard and carries himself well. Along with Redford are there any other recommendations for shooting coaches in the NKY/Cincinnati area?
