Either 2A or 3A IMO are the most competitive.

Is 2A the most competitive class in Kentucky?

Yes, no question.

I have no issue with the rankings, btw.

Mayfield Fan there will be no excuses at ALL. The better team will win and we both will learn to live with it. I guess what shocks me is how cocky you are about it all. Talk is cheap and you have said a lot no excuses if you lose. I have been respectful on this board not bad mouthing or being arrogant at all. I will put DeSales schedule up against Mayfield any day. Good luck to all and practice some humility, last time I checked this was for fun.

I have Mayfield #1

Desales 2

OC 3

CAL 4

2A 1-6 is by far the most competitive in the state IMO. I think I would have 1. DeSales and 1a. Mayfield. Both are reigning state champs with impressive wins in Week 1. I give the slight nod to DeSales just because they were the class champs last year. I really hope DeSales isn't overlooking CAL and Mayfield isn't overlooking Murray and OC. If all these teams stay healthy the 2 A playoffs should be a good one!

DeSales schedule is much tougher than Mayfield's. Who do you guys play besides Graves, and Corbin? No one on your schedule is better than Ballard, not many maybe 1 would be better than Fern Creek this year. Throw in CAL, and our schedule is much tougher than yours. So you want to talk about being tested.

I am not seeing how going back 20+ seasons ago to when Mayfield was in 2A has any relevance to today's teams or debates.

How does last years teams from both schools have any relevance?

You're only as good as your current team.

Mayfield might not have passed the "look" test from some fans from other schools in Bowling Green last December and they might not have played their best game but they had a very tough matchup with Beechwood the week before.

Mayfield and DeSales both had tough matchups with Murray and both won, it means that more than likely it would have been a very competitive game between the two.

As far as this year goes, both are solid clubs with Mayfield returning more, so Most voters think Mayfield is the best in 2A.....at this point.

DeSales schedule may be stronger but PT, Mccracken, Graves, Murray, Corbin and a Caldwell team that will be much better by week 10 is no cake walk. So both teams will be tested. I think this is a case where either team could be opening the season with the number one ranking...and really in the big picture it doesn't matter if either is ranked first or last...the play on the field will answer all these questions.....I hope they meet up but I sure wouldn't look past cal, murray or OC if I was either team.

Much Tougher?

What do you mean by 'won't have to endure another nail biter with Murray?" You guys haven't won it yet and I'm sure Murray, DeSales, Owensboro Catholic and others can give you all you want.

We will take care of you in October....as usual

You've got the ole NKY talk goin on here....the best football is played here.

This is a legitimate question. I will do my best to answer, short answer is I think it does matter.

Mayfield has always valued football. Going back over 100 years. I think, imo, that our football program is what most Mayfieldians take the most pride in. Football is not something that we are good at doing, it is something that we are. It is in our DNA now, or something like that.

I think it brings us together as a community, and crosses racial divides. We structure our lives around football. We live and breathe this tradition and history and so do our kids.

I think it does matter for the kids on this team to know that they are following, literally, in their fathers' footsteps. I think it does matter to the kids on this team to know that they are the current custodians of our Mayfield Cardinal team, and that to be in that position is important to them, and to the community. I think it is important to the kids to know that they are taking part in something that is valued, and even treasured by their families and our community.

And it starts early. They know this as young toddlers going to games. By the time they get to high school, they feel a sense of manifest destiny, and they should.

I know DeSales will be a tough game. They sound like a heck of a good football team. And they will be preparing for us all year long. But our kids have been preparing for DeSales for their entire lives. Sometimes that makes the difference.

Thats why I think our history is important.

it will be a refreshing change if there are no excuses. as for the humility, i am humble enough, but a little bravado on a message board.......

An OCath vs. CAL Semi-Final would break BGP from reading this thread
