Bluegrasspreps' Class 2A Rankings 08-24-15

Again, Mayfield's 2A history is more impressive than yours. We have been more "impressive" than you in 2A, and more impressive than you in 1A.

As to the boxing analogy, that just shows you don't know football, and you certainly don't know Mayfield football. But you will soon enough.

MF Fan.....it's all about what have you done for me lately. History is exactly that. This is not the NFL where teams carry over year after year. Mayfield's 2A teams from many years past is irrelevant. Same can be said for the last two DeSales teams. But the fact that it was at least the last 2 years, and not a decade ago, makes it a little more relevant. Hence the nod for #1 now. All to be determined in November.

Very anxious to see how 2A shakes out this season! Desales, Mayfield, CAL - no one would want to play either of them in late October

And I wouldn't overlook Murray, regardless, any way you look at it, the west representative has to come through Mayfield, not an easy task.

Ohh Geez here we go.... No one was downgrading Mayfield. You guys are waaay to sensitive. Of all the replies, still no one answered my questions. All you could do is tell us the greatness of Mayfield.

For the one poster that in his opinion thinks Mayfield was better than DeSales last year, I think the opposite. I can judge them on the day that i saw them both, in BG. They looked like 2 totally different teams. I don't think Mayfield could have scored on that defense last year. Im pretty confident, and many others on here have commented DeSales would have won that game. (Doesn't matter though)

You guys do have more 2A titles than we do. You played on 2A much longer than we have. we were stuck playing the 4A Louisville schools. You guys would have had 0 titles in that same span. No matter how great you have been, you would never have competed with the T's, and the X's in 4A Jefferson County.

You guys love to bring Murray up, but that's kinda my point, that none of you answered. We just came off a physically brutal game with CAL, the week before. Our CAL games are epic. They are our rival. We played very flat against Murray. We were fortunate to win. But my point is that it can be a grind, with so many good teams on our side of the bracket. You guys haven't had that in 1A. You've had beechwood. You'll get one easy playoff game in 2A, your first one. Then the grind starts. What happens if your not healthy? Again not answered. We have the numbers, and I do believe that has helped us in the playoffs. How many teams in 1A played a more physical game than Mayfield? DeSales, and CAL both will physically try and wear you down. How will your guys react? None of those players you have now, were on any of those 2a chamionship teams. All they know is where you have been the last 3 years. 1A, which i'm sorry, but in my opinion, it's been pretty weak. It's been Mayfield, and a bunch of others. That's not the case anymore.

I hope you guys make it through healthy, same for us. i want both teams to be full strength, if we meet. I'll shake your hand before, and after the game. this hopefully will just be the first of many meaningful games between our schools.

This is getting more fun now, I love the back and fourth :taz:

I remember the good old days when it was Mayfield and Beechwood.

I will try and answer

Short answer, the same that will happen to Desales should they lose the wrong kid or kids at the same position.

The long answer is that our skill positions are much deeper than normal except for QB, a loss there and all bets are off. Our line is young with 3 sophomores staring and not a lot of depth should we sustain some injuries there. That is what many Cards fans feel cost us a title against Hazard in 2011. At present time I believe we only have 2 players going both ways. Injuries could change that.

AS for how a physical or game or games will cause us to react, look through our schedule, we are built for that type playoff run. The current schedule has teams rated higher than Desales now. This is nothing new for us, our system has proven that we know how to prepare. In fact, I will argue that our schedule better prepares us than Desales does

I think the #1 Mayfield 2A ranking is reflective of those that have the power to make the vote understanding that Mayfield would dominate most classes (1-4 at least) in KY in recent years and would have won the 5A state championship last year against either team that was playing. That said, Williamsburg would have won the 5A as well against either of those teams. That said, I would always have given Mike Tyson the nod over whoever he was fighting based on his history, its just a safe bet.

Pull your reigns in a bit...Williamsburg would not have beaten Pulaski 5A and I don't think Mayfield would have either. I know how you guys like to compare scores of teams, well you beat Graves by more than Pulaski...I know that is your argument. But you also lost to McCracken by while Graves was able to beat them later in the year.

After watching the title games in 1A and 5A I don't think either of you (Williamsburg or Mayfield) would have beaten Pulaski. Pulaski's D was too strong and fast for either of you to deal with.

This is getting more fun now, I love the back and fourth :taz:

Yeah. Come november, DeSales will be bringing that nasy defense down there. When our boys will be coming off the buses, your kids will be wondering how many of them are there. Then our young men will physically impose their will on you. Shoving you around on the field. They will knock you down, then knock you down again, then take your lunch money. Then welcome you to 2A. See ya next year in Louisville. Kinda like what we did to Murray 2 years ago. lol.

Im just kidding Mayfield fans. All in good fun.

I think MF does beat Graves and Pulaski last year but that is just my opinion

You go Colt!:jump:

I am not seeing how going back 20+ seasons ago to when Mayfield was in 2A has any relevance to today's teams or debates.

How does comparing scores work? I've never understood that. It is all about match-ups. Who's to say that De Sales doesn't cause 3 turnovers and one of those is a pick 6 if Mayfield and De Sales were to play? Sorry, but comparing scores, no matter which side is doing it is akin to playing Dungeons and Dragons.

While it can hold some merit, it throws all variables out the window. Teams go through ups and downs and perform at different levels depending upon the time of the year. What score compare guy is basically saying are that teams get no better (or worse) and match-up evenly across the board, every game, all season.

I think MF does beat Graves and Pulaski last year but that is just my opinion
Well you did beat Graves early in the season last year didn't you? But IMO you don't beat Pulaski after watching both teams.

Is 2A the most competitive class in Kentucky?
