I worked for CPS for several years in a previous life and all I can say is that the child neglect issues in Florida must not be as bad as they are in KY. This is a case that wouldn't get a response as an intake in KY.

 

Kids forget keys all the time, so we just don't lock our doors...we have that Smith & Wesson security system so don't be alarmed. I bet I would have been hauled to Juvenile Hall back in the day for B&E on my own house.

 

Don't be so quick to dismiss KY as a reasonable state when it comes to CPS. Depending on who is on your side and who isn't on your side things can get real ugly right here in KY. I am not going to share specifics but be assured KY has its share of problems too with CPS.

I would also be that neighbor that tells the other neighbors if you ever get in a bind have your kid text me or ring my door bell.

Yep. Our neighbors across the street have two young kids, the oldest being around 10. I work from home most days or am home by or can be home by 3pm,and if I'm not my wife almost always is. A couple times a month, the mother across the street will get stuck in traffic and not be able to beat the bus home. We are always happy to be on call to have the kids come over so they can have someplace to stay until their mother gets home. And when over, the kids almost always spend most of their time outdoors. Not all neighbors are perfect, but to many people don't take the time to get to know their neighbors at all. It would solve many problems.

Hell it was better when I was a kid... Every kid on my street would be outside for HOURS until it got dark in the summer. Some parents sat out on the porch watching over everybody, some didn't. But everyone knew the kids were safe, so that's why were allowed to run around and do whatever we wanted.

Not my intended statement...this work is bad no matter what state and lest we forget, these are state employees in the most harsh environments. I saw enough of the system to shape my future beyond that work

There are many safe and effective ways to raise kids.

Cops and child protective services should be worrying about the kid that is out there shooting another kid, not the one shooting hoops.

Now the kid will stay inside, hack into neighbor's Wifi & gain access to some lewd photos.

My mom had a rule in the summer. After breakfast was done, and chores were done, she would lock my sister and I out of the house till lunch time. We could come back in to go to the bathroom, but nothing else. After lunch, the same until dinner. Then after dinner till dark.

I got locked out once when I was about that age, just sat on the porch watching traffic...my neighbor saw me and called me over and gave me Iced Tea and Red Velvet Cake.

Dude CPS really sucks sometimes. I know a guy who wasn't allowed to see his own child for thirty days because his daughter had a bruise and they didn't know how it happened. This guy wouldn't hurt a fly, and certainly not his child.

Curious why CPS is the one taking a beating in this thread when it was the police that called them. It was also the police that arrested the parents, finger printed them and striped search them.

Or gee I don't know, walk over and ask the kid if he is OK before you call the cops.

But then YOU might be accused of stalking children.

Because in most areas if there is any kind of domestic call that involves children CPS have to be called. If the police don't call them they get in trouble. CPS were likely also the ones that decided that the parents were negligent and pressed charges.
