Why do you really hate Cooper so much? Numerous people have pointed out that this is the only team really being questioned about their move. Seems like a personal vendetta to me and quite a few others.

 

Also, this thread is about Conner too. And since some of you have questioned me I am going to get to Highlands, CovCath, and Boone County too but those are separate discussions.

True. But KHSAA still had to "approve" the request.

Technically I think you are right, that was the wording, but in reality I don't know of any request that was denied. Were there any?

Honestly- and this has been said before- the KHSAA made a big mistake allowing anyone to petition to play up or down. Just play where you are classified and be done. Or cut it to a four class system.

To me it seems obvious that there is a financial driver that is behind the decision to play up to 6A for the 3 Boone County Schools. Here is what I see:

2) Reduced support for travel for athletic teams.

3) Little or no investment in feeder system (except Cooper).

4) Growing economically challenged, and transient population in eastern Boone County (even though overall population is decreasing in this area of BC).

The argument against the "Super Class" argument has always been "no one would be dumb enough to request to play up in the 'Super Class'". Well, I guess that argument has been well disputed.

What is Cooper doing different in the feeder program?

The school system does not support the program's financially, so they have zero interest costs.

Any source that tells you it came straight from Borchers and Trosper is lying to you. Sorry, but take it from someone right here that is very much in the "know"

 

You might want to take a look around and see where you are....because it is obvious you do not "know!"

 

Instead of being a keyboard cowboy calling people liars, ask AD/Coach Borchers yourself. If Randy tells you it was the county school system that "forced" him to play 6a, ask him who from the the school board made that demand.

If you do not like the answer you get from Randy or Dave, call Jeff Griffith, now the Barren County HC, and ask him who from the school board "forced" Boone County to remain in 6a. If making a long distance phone call or trying to find the area code to complete the call is too much, just call Jon Smith at Boone County High School because he was the AD at the time.

 

By the way, the decision to play 6a was not even given a thought, until at one of the winter NKYFCA meetings, when HHS and CCH told everyone of their intentions of moving to 5a. Essentially, that night it was decided to move to 6a, during the next couple of days talking on the phone each decided to petition the KHSAA for a move to 6a. But since you are right there and very much in the "know," I am not telling you anything new. So, this information is just being shared with all the people on the outside!!

 

The Boone County school administration does not give a rats butt what division the football teams play in! Why would they? It isn't like they have to increase the athletic budget if they stay 5a. Plus, it is not Ryle, so the other schools do not matter, see where all the admin send their kids!

It was 100% each schools decision, more specifically each coach.

The move to 6A is only a bad idea if you are interested in winning a state title. If you don't care about winning state championships, then the move to 6A by all the Boone County schools makes for a fun local rivalry. As has been commented above, Cooper is missing out on a real chance at a 5A title this year.

This year, for Cooper, you may be correct. But for the following 3 years it wouldn't matter what class Cooper is in, which is why I do not know why this is such a topic.

I would say lets give the coaches and administration from both schools time to prove if this is a smart move or not. I would think all can agree that this year is a off year for both Highlands and Cov Cath, I also say all can agree that the boosters from both of those schools will not accept years such as this and I would look for both schools to not have repeats of this season, but with this being said in the past both of these schools usually have to fight each other to get out of N. KY, and usually one of these two teams end up playing in the state finals or at least the semi-finals. My point to this is that getting out of N KY to have the chance to make it that far is remote. Now in the case of Cooper, which I feel has been the strength of the Boone County schools as of late, this move was a smart move. From what I can see getting to the semi-finals is more of a reality. I may be incorrect, but the Louisville schools, which again history has proven, is the strength of 6A more often than not will have to beat each other up to reach the semi-finals and when any team gets to that point anything can happen. How many times have a late season or post season injury to key players effected a teams opportunity of advancing?

 

I guess what I see is that Cooper and Conner are rolling the dice with the move to 6A and felt making it farther in the playoffs was more possible in 6A, but again time will tell. If history of playing 6A schools in Coopers case and their win/loss record against local 6A teams stays on the same, then I would have to agree with the move.

 

So instead of beating these coaches and administration up, how about let it play out and a year or so down the road, then look to say, "I told you so". I am sure both will then admit if it were a good move or not. Also, another part of this that nobody is considering, is with the growth the Boone Co area is experiencing both may have been forced to move up in the near future anyway??

 

Just a thought of an outside observer.
