Sam Malone probably didn't mind it. I can't think of many men that would turn down a late night yoga session with Ashley.

Here is the challenge for UK. They have to change their defensive philosophy a little from what they have done all year for this one. Against Notre Dame I think you have to close out deeper and harder on the 3 and take the risk of them driving past you. You cannot give them open looks at the 3. I will sacrifice some dribble penetration to keep them from taking an open 3. I think UK has the size inside to recover and block shots even with ND being a good passing team.

 

On the ND offensive side, it will be interesting to see how they handle UK's switching defense. From the few games I have seen, it looks to me like ND likes to run a lot of picks and the high post pick and roll. UK will switch on picks because they have the size to avoid mismatches. That can negate the pick and roll. How will ND handle that?

 

I see UK attacking the rim, using their size and depth to get ND in foul trouble. The refs can have a big impact on this game. If they call it tight, that could be trouble for ND. UK can't settle for the 3. They have to attack the rim on offense.

 

Hasn't UK really done that all year? I could be wrong but it seems like UK has always played hard up tight on guys outside because they know they have the big guys underneath to help. Which is why the teams that have given our defense the most trouble is the ones who do drive to the basket because of playing tight on guys on the outside?

I agree the guards have put pressure on players outside the 3 more this year than I have seen in the past. I don't know that WCS and Lyles have gone out there as much. They will need to in this game. Both of them will be guarding dangerous three point shooters. The other thing is WCS likes to drop off his man into the paint and look for blocks on penetration by someone else's man. If he does that in this game, ND will pass it out to his man for the 3. It is going to be interesting to see UK's defense handle this spread out offense by ND.

So How does ND possibly get the best win in their history?

*Get ahead early and keep lead. Continue free throw shooting % at current pace at end of game.

*Zone and keep UK off of offensive rebounds. Force them to beat them from outside.( not easy!)

*Start by ball screen out front to get WCS on Jackson and/or Grant. First option is look for Auguste over Harrisons/Booker. 2nd option is Vasturia on wing. 3rd option in Connaughton with a reverse layup 4th continue the drive and see if WCS can guard the 1.

*Get long rebounds- on offensive and defensive side. Run immediately with defensive long rebound before shot blockers get down in position.

*Don't let spectacular dunks by UK effect you. Its just 2 points.

*Let the non-coaching by Brey and the non coaching by Calipari work to your favor. Both coaches have stressed that the players have to sort it out and make the adjustments. I like the experience of Notre Dame players coming back at NC St ( down 19) and NC in the ACC tournament. I love WCS's attitude during the pressure times so let someone else take the shot. Harrisons are due to miss one sometime!

*Let Father Ted Hesburgh direct from above. The Irish may need divine intervention!

If you play a zone against UK they will tear you up on the offensive glass. Need to pick your poison, play man to man and hope they miss, or play a zone and hope they can't crash the glass.
