You soft press UK to slow the game as much as possible. Keep the guard in front and run off 8 seconds before they can start in the half court. I just can't see trapping all over going well for anyone. Maybe it buys you 10 minutes as they adjust. That's all I can see...

According to wrinkle head Shane Battier, Kentucky has only been pressed 5% of their possessions and turned it over around 25% of the time they were pressed. He said he couldn't wait to be on all over ESPN on Friday after WVU beat UK.

 

You'd think more people would have pressed them if they were that awful against the press...I guess other coaches were too dumb to figure it out.

That means on about 2/3 of their possessions they will not be able to press. If UK gets 60 possessions a game that doesn't leave too many opportunities to press unless you shoot a high percentage.

Unless MTV is going to lower down the 25 pts. Rock N Jock baskets at the under 4:00 timeout, I don't see how this is playing them tough.

This is very true and some of the so-called-experts I don't think even thought of this. Some good shooting teams have shot in the 30% range against the Cats, and WVU isn't even a good shooting team. They are ranked somewhere in the low 300's nationally in half-court offensive efficiency. If they shoot lights out they're have a shot if not I think the Cats by 20+. The Media also wants to talk about their defensive rankings in the country but they are also ranked #1 in the nation if fouls per game so how the game is officiated could play a role as well.

 

I would like to see a thread with all the "and 1" signs Kentucky has seen this year. 35-1, 34-1, 33-1,etc. Ulis will do a great job with the press, I say UK by 10

People forget that West Virginia team was the #1 2 seed, were they not? Weren't they ranked in the 5-7 range all season? This West Virginia team doesn't even compare in talent IMO.

 

I completely agree with that. I was just commenting on how people have talked about how this WVU team doesn't shoot the ball well, and I remember people saying the same thing about that WVU team and they were on fire from the three point line that game. That 2010 WVU team was a very good team, and is why I argued with someone a month ago when they said that 2010 WVU win was one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. UK had a great team that year, but had a big flaw and that was shooting. So it was an upset but I didn't see it as one of the biggest upsets of all time. That UK team may not have even beaten Duke anyways in the next round.

I am not sure what goes in to those numbers, but not a lot of teams press UK. Often time teams have pressed late game situations with the back-ups in or the game is decided.

 

Just wish the game would hurry up and get here. I went from confident to convincing myself they will lose. The fodder has gone to my head in the wrong way.

On the Day Break Show (Fox Sports Radio) this morning, they were saying that maybe Miles comments will amp Kentucky up too much and they won't play their style.
