I don't care for public schools doing it either to be honest. I actually am a purist of the old neigborhood schools. I think when this country was strong kids went to schools in their area, the community took pride in the community and the grounds, if there was a problem folks pitched in and made a change and solved the problem.

And, this in my mind, is the real problem. Not picking on county schools, but when Kentucky started the county school program, the things you mentioned diminished. That, in my opinion, is why you see such success at independent and private schools in Kentucky. In my experience, the citizens, parents and students at independent and private school have great pride in their schools, while many people in county school systems continually talk about the schools that were consolidated to make the county school. They seem to cherish the consolidated independent/community schools more so then they do the county schools, in fact, many down right resent the fact that the smaller schools were consolidated to make the country school.

 

The above is one reason why many of the schools in Ohio do so well, they don't have county schools, per se, they have community based schools where the parents/students/citizens take great pride in their school.

 

Again, not picking on county schools or stereotyping county schools, just my experience.

I would probably stop at private schools. I agree never will be a completely level playing feild, But IMO seperation would be a good start.

 

As for what we agree on, imagine if all the resources at T and ST X were piped into the public schools in that area, wo what a difference that could be made. Imagine all the volunteer hours, and bright minds were spread out in that city what the communities would be like. Pipe dream I know but just imagine.

 

So everything that those schools built and earned over decades should just be handed over because it 'isn't fair' that they went the distance to build such things? People take pride in the Trinity and St. X communities precisely because they are communities. Breaking them up would not suddenly instill that dedication in whatever high school the students were funneled into.

Ummmm No...I never said to do that you need to read the conversation between me and the other poster. But that overall attitude pumped into public schools would be great....instead you see a kind of take your kids and go somewhere else mentality by some. But I am not proposing any liquidation of private schools however.

I grew up in a county that had multiple schools that were the pride of the community before consolidation wiped many of these rivalries away for good. I am now in a county that has multiple public & private schools & I can honestly say that the public schools community support is very low in comparison to the private/independent schools in the area.

 

The public schools are populated by students that live within a few miles of each school & many of the attendance districts have been with the schools for 25+ years, HOWEVER, there is very little community support for these schools. You don't see flags or banners in the yards of the community, business windows supporting the local school during the post season, etc.....

 

Maybe this is my small town memory or I just like old movies that show a community rallying around a local team, but the only ones I see that show pride in my town anymore are the private schools (& I envied this type of support when I was a coach & AD)

 

I guess I am saying all that to say is that whether public or private, independent or charter(not in KY yet) I wish that the community would support all schools not only in athletics, but more importantly academics.

Anyone who applies at Trinity and pays is admitted, there is no selection but don't let anything like facts cut into a good rant.

 

 

That is not factual. I have a son with autism that was denied admission to several private schools in Louisville, Trinity being one of those. And while that has nothing to do with football, I now look at those private schools differently. I also must state that I will not allow my son to attend a public school either. He currently attends and will continue to attend a private school specifically for students with autism and other disabilities.

How has that worked out in the past?

 

The talent retention with the feasibility of winning titles, be it a conference title, would make participating programs better.

Good to know your more or less ignored my post. Trinity has no waiting list. The only things that prevent people from attending Trinity are financial issues and gender. We don't cherry pick. If that was the case then that committee wasn't around when many of my classmates were admitted when i was there. There were some serious morons in that group.

I stand corrected, there are some students with extreme need that Trinity is not able to accommodate. But it is also not factual to make the assertion that Trinity has a rigorous selection process and that there are many who are denied admission.

There just aren't enough Private school to make a complete class in football.

 

There are some advantages inherent to being large private male only school, but the right coach can win against them in the right situation. Male, Manual, Scott Co and others have the numbers and talent to compete with them. They just may not have the same laser focus on football that T and X have.

 

No reason at this point to break up into public and private in Kentucky.

Trinity does not handle all disabilities unfortunately and that is probably the only thing that bothers me. They handle many disabilities that most private schools do not offer to handle or deal with, however schools like Meredith Dunn specialize in helping students with special needs.

 

We have expanded it beyond most private schools but that is one thing that we do tend to lag behind the public schools in.

Also please explain why DeSales didn't rise up until recently and has played many tough games against schools in their division, why LexCath only has a few titles, why Owensboro Catholic hasn't done much, why Holy Cross in Louisville hasn't been relevant in over a decade and so on.

High school sports in much more than just winning state championships, and no one's life has been ruined or altered because they didn't win the state title. You pull all the privates out, and guess what happens? Trinity or X still wins the "privates" title 9 out of 10 years (frankly that would probably be 10 out of 10 years). Then what do you do so the smaller private schools have a chance to win a state title or rectify the unfairness, which honestly would probably be even worse. But I guess that wouldn't matter since they wouldn't be beating up on the publics anymore, which at the big school level will still be dominated by 2 or 3 schools. High School sports and state titles AREN'T the most important aspect of your high school life. If a high school state championship is the highlight of your life, I'd argue you haven't lived a full life.

The fact is Scott..Manual..and Male are not winning state titles every year. Those are the facts. Hey, if you think 20+ titles in 22 years by the same two teams is a fair system so be it. That’s your opinion. If you don’t think state titles are important you must be the only one. Why do you think KHSAA move Trinity out of the super district…$$$$. Almost ensures that Trinity will play St. X in the 6A championship game most years. What’s so wrong with having a private system and public system???? I’m sure most private school systems like the current system. Smaller private schools (Holy cross..etc) would simply play other smaller private schools

Explain how and why they win…really. Again maybe if LexCath..Holy cross..Owensboro Catholic played similar private schools they might win more. First..the two schools we are talking about have 1400 males on average..dwarfing 95% of the public schools in the state. Hey, like I told rjs4470..if you think 20+ titles in 22 years by the same two teams is a fair system so be it. That’s your opinion.
