Not even close but nice try. Highlands has the best program in NKY regardless of size and they are one of the smallest schools in NKY. That really makes you size argument a red herring. Let's be clear are you anti-Louisville or anti-private?

If we want to talk SK specifically, aside from one season 7 years ago, taking Trinity or X out of the mix doesn't even get them to the state title game. For the most part Trinity and X aren't the ones keeping NKY teams out of the finals.

That is not factual. I have a son with autism that was denied admission to several private schools in Louisville, Trinity being one of those. And while that has nothing to do with football, I now look at those private schools differently. I also must state that I will not allow my son to attend a public school either. He currently attends and will continue to attend a private school specifically for students with autism and other disabilities.

 

Actually it does. KHSAA counts all male students towards the count that determines what class in football you compete in. Any large public school is going to have 200 - 300 IEP, 504 , behavioral, and free and reduced lunch male students that KHSAA considers perfectly fit to play football.

That is an overstatement and Coach McKee and Scott County proved there is still a competitive environment.

 

Trinity, St. X and Flaget (now gone) have dominated the top level of HS football since the 1940s. Its not new, its not different that how it has been literally for over 60 years. What is new is that the Louisville public schools have dropped in class and were decimated by integrated bussing in the 1970s. I know, I was there. Bussing set back the primary competitors to the Catholic schools very badly. There has never been a full recovery to the pre-bussing days when Louisville public from Louisville were more on par. Couple that with the splitting of the large county schools around the state and usual disfunction of the very large Fayette publics and its no wonder the 'Green Monsters' dominate. Trinity has not changed what they do for years, same with X.

 

The large Catholic schools have set the standard in the top xA classes. Its tough to overcome them but as noted Scott County figured out how to do it.

 

Remember - there are only 13 private schools that play football in Kentucky. There is no way they will be split out. Unnatural and even unconstitutional acts (like the super district) have been done to try to 'fix' the T and X 'problem'. The structural 'problems' as currently perceived were created by changes in the publics.

When you subtract the 200 - 300 IEP, 504, behavioral and free and reduced lunch males that KHSAA dictates have to be accounted for in determining state classification, your typical public school 6A program would be classified as 4A.

I saw Tates Creek hand Trinity one of their more lopsided playoff losses. Lafayette beat Trinity at Trinity in 1979. Henry Clay has produced many talented teams.

That one still baffles me. HC was on the uptick about 8-9 years ago and then suddenly it stopped. It can't be all these players are going to LC or LCA because neither of them have been unstoppable in this time frame either. What gives with these schools?

If Highlands were plugged into the NKY 6A district last year, I really think they wouldn't have had a game within 14 points until they made it to the finals.
