Kids deserve the opportunity to play for titles on a level playing field. I believe that opportunity would help retention at a lot of the 6A schools. In some states, for example PA, private and public schools play for separate titles. Forcing publics to compete with the likes of T and X is just flat out unreasonable. KHSAA acknowledges this by rotating the regional brackets every year so the same district does not get routed in the first round every year. History has shown that the public 6A/4A public school programs cannot compete with the Louisville schools. Its time for change, with, or without KHSAA! 6A coaches, are you with me?

There just aren't enough Private school to make a complete class in football.

 

There are some advantages inherent to being large private male only school, but the right coach can win against them in the right situation. Male, Manual, Scott Co and others have the numbers and talent to compete with them. They just may not have the same laser focus on football that T and X have.

 

No reason at this point to break up into public and private in Kentucky.

I'd rather see a 16 team Super Class with the best of the best playing in one class regardless of size or public/private.

So basically, take T and X out of it and let everyone else play for a state title. Then T and X can play for a title against each other every year. Sounds like a good plan.

But please let those 6A public schools that aren't happy with the current set-up leave the KHSAA and play as independents. Remember if any ever do that they would be unable to play anyone who chose the sane course and stayed in the KHSAA.

I still say swimming & volleyball have it tougher than football in this state in regards to the public & private schools, BUT I could care less about "THAT" issue honestly.

It's already been mentioned, not enough private schools. On top of that are you saying that it is more fair for DeSales to have to play Trinity for a title than SK playing Trinity? The disparity between SK and DeSales is likely larger than the disparity between SK and Trinity enrollment wise.

 

If the public schools weren't so dead set on immutable borders and a desire to keep schools small instead of just upping the nimber of teachers they would be better served to just let the money follow the student to any public school this wouldn't be such a big deal.

 

Any student should have the right to attend any public school of their choosing with the money following them.

Here's another point to ponder on @Pioneer.Pride 's suggestion. There are currently 32 teams in 6A. If X and Trinity are out of the discussion which 16 teams are you suggesting should flee the KHSAA and start their own association and championship? Why those schools and not the other 14 public schools in 6A?

Also if the public schools weren't so married to the maximum number of students a school can house. Boone County has been decimated by the glut of schools there. And please don't tell me that smaller schools make for better academics because states that border us disprove that. Public schools in Indy and Cincinnati are twice the size of Kentucky schools and last I checked both states outperformed KY overall in academic achievement.

So a school with 1400 boys playing a school with 200 is much more fair thank a school a 1400 boys playing a school with 900 boys because they are both private.

 

So you're saying that subdividing a school district by building new schools instead of adding on isn't choosing the size of the school? That is the whole point of building a new school is it not? Unless local politicians are looking to grease the pockets of local construction firms (which I am sure has never happened here in KY).

 

Either way you are punishing the smaller private schools over a decision that your own districts made to close their borders.

 

If we have a boxing match and you say to me that you are only going to use your left hand because that is what they do where you are from am I expected to do so as well even though there is no specific boxing regulation to that effect? Say I manage to win and you complain about the fact that I used both hands would you bw justified even though you consciously made the decision to limit yourself? I would call that patently absurd.

 

If you put restrictions on your own schools that other places don't follow then don't be surprised when they come back to bite you.

 

No offense to NKY but the top 4 teams in 6A last year were all from the same district. And almoat every single game between thoae squads was a nail biter. 2 of those schools are public schools. What makes Male and Manual so much different?
