We have ALL A tournaments in basketball for schools that have a large resource disparity. While I'm not a fan of ALL A in basketball it is an indication that KHSAA acknowledges that the resource disparity is real. I would assert that the economic disparity in football is even worse because you need 90 athletes to compete whereas even the smallest schools can come up with 15 athletes for basketball.

 

If the playing field is so even, why do we rotate regional brackets every year in 6A? That is an acknowledgement of a broken system that entrenched interests wish to protect.

Please list all the advantages and plainly and distinctly. I want a comprehensive numbered list so we can address each one line by line. Don't give me the whole "you know what advantages you have," because I really don't.

Wouldn't that have put them in with Highlands? Good luck beating them ( and psssssst they are a public school).

They obviously can't do it during the season since most of the 6A coaches in NKY seem averse to laying other 6A programs outside of their district.

So you're saying if I have no intention of agreeing with you then you are just going to ignore me entirely?

 

So what you are saying is that children who have special needs, students with behavioral issues, and low income students are a problem for the football team of SK? I can understand the special needs and behavioral kids to some extant, but at the same time you are more or less saying that a kid that is low income is more or less a disability to the school? That is pretty darned condescending to students coming from low income families. By the same token ADHD can also qualify a student for an IEP (I remember about half of the IEPs I dealt with when student teaching fit that bill).

 

 

Frankly it is an advantage for the public schools that their students don't have tuition payments. Ask rockmom about the hardships that she dealt with in trying to get both of her kids through Catholic schools. Many of us sacrifice quite a bit to make sure that our children can attend Catholic schools. I know my father worked two jobs and my mother worked full time while trying to put my brother and I through Trinity. My brother and his wife are actually doing that same thing now, my brother works two jobs and his wife works as well while she is trying to pursue a higher education while trying to send both of their daughters through the Catholic schools in Louisville.

 

Are there some that are privileged that come to our schools? Of course there are, I knew some people spoiled rotten that went there but there were more that came from blue collar backgrounds than you think and many of us are quite offended at some of the insinuations that all of us came from money. Shoot the most exclusive private schools in Louisville don't even have football teams worth talking about.

 

We don't HAVE to take students with disabilities, but we do take many of them. Do we take as many as a public school? No, but many private schools won't take any. Do we have free and reduced lunch students? Not really allowed too because we aren't allowed to give more than 50% assistance per student (which saddens me, I really do wish that a Trinity education could be available to every young man who wanted one) and I know of many students (yes even athletes) who left Trinity for that same reason.

 

So no, we don't have to take all the people a public school does, but we take more than we are required to take. Hopefully one day we will further expand our educational opportunities for students with special needs, but that really has no bearing on the football team at Trinity either way.

Ummm... I don't know if you're aware of this, but Bowling Green has beaten St. X in regular season play for four years running. Also there are several Louisville schools in 4A and 5A. Facing them hasn't been a problem for either of those schools.

Not even close but nice try. Highlands has the best program in NKY regardless of size and they are one of the smallest schools in NKY. That really makes you size argument a red herring. Let's be clear are you anti-Louisville or anti-private?

The subject at hand has been discussed, debated multiple times a year since I have been here. Fixing something that does not need fixing is a favorite past time around here. Maybe you can bring some new perspective but 100s have discussed this issue over years.
