How about a 16 team 6A public school conference independent of KHSAA?

Anyone who thinks the 2 same teams should win 20 State Championships in 22 years is crazy. Bottom line..the playing field is not fair and never will be. I’m sure the alumni of X and T love the current system. I didn’t gloss over the point. Male, Manual and Scott co are good programs, but they are not on the same level of X and T year in and year out, if they were they would have more state championship appearances and titles. The system is broken!!! It only benefits 2 teams. There is no reason not to have a two tier system (Public & Private). Public schools systems can’t afford nutritionist, strength coaches, high paid head and assistant coaches..just can’t. I’m not hating on X & T…man they are the class of the field and great programs not just in football but most sports they are the ones to beat. Vast majority of public programs can’t even give them a good game..why do you think Trinity plays half their games outside Ky. One, it’s hard to get public schools to schedule them and the competition in state doesn’t really give them a look. If T can find games outside the Ky public school system so can the rest of the private schools. Let fix the problem.

I just don't agree with kicking someone out because they are too good. And while this may seem great for the publics, T and X will dominate a private division even worse. You'd simply be creating a problem in order to fix a problem. Not all private schools operate on the same playing field either. Yes Trinity and X are unique in this state with their large population of students. But pulling the private schools out doesn't make the public schools better in sports, or fix any of the issues that are preventing them from being competitive. People complain all the time about how classing sports, or everyone making the playoffs waters things down, and makes titles less meaningful. But many of those same people want to pull out the best teams to make things better?? How does that make any sense??

Actually from 2014-1993 (past twenty-two years) it's St. X/Trinity: 17 and Public Schools: 5

Much closer to a 4:1 ratio than the 10:1 you were claiming.

Anyway, Male for the past few years, Male almost always gives Trinity is not beating them. It is no accident that both of their games this past year went into overtime. Male also beat St.X this year, much like Bowling Green has done for the past four years.

Yes, St. X and Trinity are strong programs and a tradition of success breeds success. However, they are not unbeatable. Splitting off into a Public/Private tournament would be impossible. There are only, about thirteen private schools that field football teams, and none of them are even close the same class as St. X and Trinity.

First bolded. Not sure about anyone else, but I know I never said the same 2 teams SHOULD be winning all the state titles, and I don't think anyone else is really saying that either. What I will say, though, is that the best PROGRAMS should be consistently winning...and both T and X meet that definition, with one or two public programs making a push to get up there as well.

Second bolded. You still don't seem to be addressing the question/scenario that was put forth; T and X go away and play somewhere else, the way you would like to see, so no privates playing publics. So, that then bumps up, as the situation is currently...Male, Manual and lets say Scott County as the top 3 teams in 6A. So lets say Male or Manual win the 6A for the next 15 out of 20 years. Well, by your reasoning this wouldn't be right because they are winning all the time (same argument you are making against T and X now). So then what? Do we move Male and Manual out and make them play somewhere else too? See where I am going with this?

The cream is always going to rise to the top, no matter how much you dilute the cream. Sure, the cream won't be as good, and you could dilute it down enough to where it's just skim milk. But by that time the product won't be very good either.

I agree with everything here except the bolded. I think the best team should win every year. If it's the same 2 ( or however many) teams, then so be it. Sure it sucks and gets frustrating. But it is what it is. I'm not a fan of making changes because someone is too good. It's not the way things work in any other situation in life.

Oh I agree, and I sort of addressed that in the nest sentence when I said the best programs SHOULD be consistently winning. Which T and X are and do. Justafan seemed to be indicating, the way I read his post that I believe T and X should be winning it every year I guess just because they are T and X. My point...if T and X are the best programs every year, then yes they probably will and should win most years. If Dunbar and SK suddenly became the best two programs in 6A, then yes they should and probably would win most years. And I think we both agree that if other teams/people don't like seeing the same schools win it every year, then their schools/teams need to get better and put a stop to it by beating them when they get the chance.

Again most of you miss the point. X & T are the best programs because they have resources public schools do not. That's the point. Public schools cannot bring in a kid who lives in Indiana or Tenn or another county for that matter to play for their team. that gives X & T a HUGH advantage...really do you not see that. All Ts losses this year were from out of state schools they would not win a private school midwest region every year. Public schools cannot pay their coaches the salarlies that X & T do. There are few all male public schools...Public schools cannot hire dedicated strenght coaches or nutruituionist. X & T have unfair advantages. Bottom line. The proof is in Ts record last year they lost to teams that had the same advantages they did.

What about how they lost to Male? That's a public school in Kentucky.

All of Trinity's coaches are also teachers. Do we even have a nutritionist on the payroll? If so I doubt they work sports only. Any sports nutrition would be secondary to planning/managing the breakfast/lunch schedules of the school.

Also, you talk about Trinity bringing in kids from other states. Then why does Trinity have only one graduate invited to a D1 college team? And he's only a walk-on at WKU. Seriously, check the college commit list.

U are right..pulling X & T wont make any public school better, just level the playing field for the public schools. Just like everything else..its about money. Public schools do not have the ability to skirt title 9...X & T do? Public school systems operate on tax payer $$, Public schools systems have elementary, middle and HS to fund. T & X only have their individual schools. T & X have an unfair advantage. I don't think T & X are too good just resourced better, which means they can bring in the best players..coaches...facilities. Things public schools cannot do.

I believe there are 4 or 5 last year juniors from trinity being looked at by D1 programs. I believe 1 or 2 already have offers.

Which would still only put them about even with the rest of the state. Check out how many D1 commits other schools had this year only.

And my points about Male, the coaches, and a possible nutritionist were not addressed.

I really don't know that they are resourced that much better. Take Kenton County Schools (only because I'm familiar with that district). Some of the best facilities in the state (Scott has arguably one the best football/indoor training facility in the state...SK is pretty close and many schools would kill for Dixie's facility which is only missing an indoor facility). I've seen and been in Trinity's facilities and they are not any better than what Kenton County has. There is a paid strength and conditioning position. Each school has a budget of about $30k per year to pay football coaches including middle school coaches (this is public information and can be readily found online) Coaches have access to and attend well known clinics paid for by the school district. Excellent Athletic trainers with access to great medical care and rehab. Are there some obstacles?? Sure...but it's hard to make an argument that all public schools are operating at such a huge disadvantage or don't have the resources to compete.

To go further, take a look at Walton Verona. That's a 2A school with a top notch football facility, and their new weight room/fitness center is better than most gyms you pay a membership for.

Trinity and X are nice, beautiful facilities. But there are many facilities throughout the state that are just as good and even better.

Which would still only put them about even with the rest of the state. Check out how many D1 commits other schools had this year only.

U can't discuss one game or win against T & X over the years..doesn't fit. What do you think Coach Beatty's salary is??? Most public schools do not have athletic nutritionist no matter what their role is at the school.

Scott co is the only game in town. Do they even have a staduim? I know they use the Georgetown College as their home staduim. They didn't pay for that? Is that a full time strenght coach or teacher coded as a strenght coach? 30K is nothing between 12+ coaches. T & X probably pay that to their OC or DC alone if not more. Not every public school system pays for coaches clinics anymore. Majority schools in the public school system will never have the facilities u mention above. We haven't even touched on the enrollmemt T & X average 1300 males. the majority of 6A is 400 or so below that.

I'm talking Scott High School and the Kenton County School district Dixie and Simon Kenton being the other two schools in that district not Scott County (read my post closely, I don't even mention Scott County) And while I agree that the situation I describe in Kenton County may not apply to every school in the state, it applies more often than you think. South Oldham, Ryle, Beechwood, John Hardin, Montgomery County are just a few places I've been outside of Kenton County that have great facilities that are better than many D2 or D3 colleges. And you better believe there are many that have facilities at or above that level (as well as many that don't).

As far as pay, I have no idea what Trinity or X pays their coaching staff, but I'm guessing while it may be better than what some public schools pay, it's probably not as much as you think. And let's be honest, some public schools (if not quite a few) give their coaches pretty sweet teaching gigs with favorable class schedules which more than make up for the lower "coaching" salary. So while Trinity and X may have it good, there are more than a few public schools that have it pretty good as well.

About the only argument you have that I can't refute or argue with is enrollment and lack of boundaries. And yes they do have an advantage in those areas, no doubt about it. But they still have to attract the kids, coach them, and maintain them. Also, while privates may dominate 6A here in KY, you can find just as many glaring examples of public schools dominating the same way in other states, states that are much better football states than KY.

Some 2014 State playoff scores, publics vs privates:

Murray 20 - Owensboro Catholic 9

Desales 14 - Murray 7

Mayfield 48 - Bethlehem 0

Russellville 39 - Kentucky Country Day 7

Russellville 47 - Holy Cross (Louisville) 18

Highlands 37 - CovCath 34 (also beat them badly in the regular season)

Highlands 47 - LexCath 26

Shelby Valley 37 - Lex Christian 26

Seems to me several of the public schools are doing quite well against their private competition. If T and X have the inherent advantages that being private schools supposedly bring...then why don't all the private schools take advantage of that, cause evidently they aren't. I mean, if it works in T's and X's favor, it should work in all of their favor, right?

Do T and X have some advantages? Sure. They are the two biggest schools by male enrollment, so the chances of them having a few more bodies that can play football are pretty good in comparison to their level of competition. BUT, that's not always the deciding factor either. Take 1A Mayfield for example (2A next year). They many times smash...SMASH many, much larger 5A and 6A schools most every year. So the theory that more is better, while a good rule of thumb, isn't always the deciding factor, so there have to be other things in place that a school...a public school, like Mayfield is doing. Same goes for Highlands. Throw BG in there as well. And I would argue that, if one places Trinity as the best football program in the state, Mayfield and Highlands could EASILY be 2-3, and arguments could be made for either to be #1 .
