shooterx3
Stripes any thoughts on the 17u games this weekend in Florence?
Stripes3
I believe it was the DS Allstars East team second tourney and they were playing like a team that had been together for months. Van Hoose showed his range, but Novosell showed he could play inside out. They had a solid mixture of athletism and fundamental play. Very unselfish. Loved the passing and chemistry. Most folks would agree, this team "wanted" to play defense. You have to give Vance (sp) some credit on working to get this crew together. The one thing I noticed about his program and players, they all seem to improve over the summer months going into high school. And I think that is what is most important. Portwood looks as though he will come on strong too, if I got the kid pegged right. Scott County has a solid future for the next 2 years with Portwood and Mackey. Did that answer your question Shooter?
shooterx3
Thats a pretty good review, but you left out HaDDIX, did you see the first half of the Championship game? Or did you think Haddix was Mackey? Haddix has the ability to score when you really need a bucket and he has that 5th gear on a runnout that leaves you in the dust, at 6'3, he is also an unbelievable rebounder, but your right, the chemistry on this team is very strong, they dont care who scores, and if your open you get the ball, they have had two practices so far, could have some more upside!:thumb:
Stripes3
Nope. Of course I did not miss Haddix. Haddix seems to excel more in the AAU environment than at Scott County. Yes, he had a solid year, but had he played like that against Henry Clay, we may of had a completely different psynario in this year's Sweet 16 tourney. Haddix still needs to add range to his shot. He has excellent explosion off the floor and can shoot over taller defenders. He plays mostly at the 3 spot from what I could see. If he wants to play D1 ball, he has to learn to create shots off the dribble better. Only becuase at that level, he will not be able to soar over taller defenders like he does when he is in the paint. Solid defender though. Just needs some better handles. Agree? Your pretty good stripes, but its not an aau thing, Scott County had to have him in the post, where he didnt get to use his handles much, he needs to be out on the perimeter creating and exploding, his handles will get better, he will play d-1 ball somewhere , and he is a GREAT kid when you talk to him (kinda reminds me of those Faulkners)
Stripes3
Now now. See you don't have to go and spoil it. I agree with you. I have met him and he is certainly a respectful young man. Coach Hicks does utilize him more in the post which was my point. AAU type play allows him to get out on the perimeter more. For Scott County, he seems best when he pops out from the post for those mid range jumpers and spin moves. He still has room to improve and that's a good thing. shooterx3
We are on the same page Stripes with about everything except the Faulkners, but thats ok, now let me really give you a test of your basketball knowledge. State AAu is coming up in May, how would you handicap the teams at this point? Of course the Eddie Ford teams wont play against any teams in Kentucky, how would you rate their 17u team this year vs the Derick Smith teams? the DS East vs DS West team? I think the Northern Kentucky shining stars will be right there, the Eddie Ford team is probally the 4th best team in the state this year? How would you rank them? Stripes3
I would put the East against the West and the East wins. I just think you have a better overall "team" with the East. With the West, you have inconsistant shooting and they live or die off the press, fast-breaks, and points off turnovers. Problem is, the East just don't turn it over. You have mismatches when the East faces the West, but that is usually offset with better ball control and movement from the East side and they generally look as though they shoot a better percentage from the field and don't force nearly as many shots. With practice, that could change for the better for the West, but I doubt it. It just looks as though the West are vying for scholarship points and not the "W". For as long as I can recall, Eddie Ford has been chasing the same players that DS Allstars get. They appear to be gaining ground, but even Eddie Ford does not have the best collection of 15's in the state, much less 16's or 17's. As of today, I would do like this: 1. DS Allstars East 2. Shining Stars 3. DS Allstars West 4. Eddie Ford KY Hoopstars Agree?
Sandman
I was very impressed with the Derek Smith All Stars. They played a fantastic game to win the championship. They have so many weapons and shoot the ball very well. That was the first loss of the season for Kentucky Shining Star Sports. They are now 8 wins and 1 loss. Since you're keeping track. How many of those wins came against younger teams?
Sandman
Shining stars were a very good team,I thought Indiana Elite took alot out of them in the semi-finals, they had no legs in the second quarter of the championship game. Don't they have 10 guys to go to? How do you get tired only playing half the game?

I think on any given day, you could shuffle the top 3, Eddie Ford teams seem to be going downhill and have been getting blown out in a lot of games, especially the younger teams that are the "cash cows". Eddie only seems to care about the 17u team though, do you know who he has on there this year?

I coach the Kentucky Shining Star Sports Team. This is the first year for our program in Kentucky. I am trying to get up to speed on AAU in Kentucky. I would love to get updates on the tourneys that you attend so I can educate myself on the teams in Kentucky. Here is our schedule for the next couple of weeks. April 14th Tourney in Florence Kentucky April 21st Hoosier Spring Showcase in Indy April 28th King of the South in Nashville May 5th Spiece Run n' Slam Where are you planning on going? Do you know where the DS All Stars are going?
Stripes3
Yes. I follow tourneys in Cincy and go to several majors. What is the Tourney called "King of the South?" Nevermind, I already know. This tourney will have one the best, if not best programs in the country, the Atlanta Celtics. Are you getting your team to the Adidas 64 in Vegas? I also follow major camps Nike, Adidas, and Reebok. I don't think Eddie Ford is going down. I just don't think he gets the best players. I think the Faulkners are solid players, but they are just not the best players in the 15's in Kentucky. The coming classes, 2007, 2008, and 2009 are improving the outlook for KY talent. 2007 is still a bit top-heavy with 2008 being strong and broad in talent, and the class of 2009 appears to be one of the deepest and richest yet.
