Yes. I follow tourneys in Cincy and go to several majors. What is the Tourney called "King of the South?" Nevermind, I already know. This tourney will have one the best, if not best programs in the country, the Atlanta Celtics.

I don't think Eddie Ford is going down. I just don't think he gets the best players. I think the Faulkners are solid players, but they are just not the best players in the 15's in Kentucky.

 

The coming classes, 2007, 2008, and 2009 are improving the outlook for KY talent. 2007 is still a bit top-heavy with 2008 being strong and broad in talent, and the class of 2009 appears to be one of the deepest and richest yet.

 

We are planning on being at the tourney in Vegas. I was shocked to find out that Eddie Ford would not let us play in his tournaments. I had never heard of anything like that before.

Did not say they where tired [ LEGS GONE] played a physical game. Lot of bodies on the floor. And yes the DS all-stars where the better team. Haddix is avery good player

 

Being tired did not cost us the game, Derek Smith played well and deserved to win. I jost broke down the stats from video. They hit their first six threes and had ten three pointers in the first half. They shoot the ball as well as any team I have seen so far this year. They have some fantastic shooters.

 

Kentucky Shining Star missed 14 free throws.

 

Our starting point guard (Mike Hester) was only able to play the second half because of severe cramping in his legs.

 

Regardless of how many kids you have, if you play three games in four hours, you are going to be a little beat up. Both teams played three games in a row. Derek Smith did what they had to do to win.

Do not be surprised that Eddie Ford will not allow your team to play in his events. He is simply trying to represent Kentucky with his players, teams, and program. I have other teams' coaches contacting us and stating they have been shunned too including a 15 under team wanting to play up and wishing to play in his events. The bottomline is if they were allowed play in his event and outperform or even defeat any of his programs then that does not fare well for the Kentucky Hoopstar's rep. But they are not the only program to do so. Other out-of-state grassroots operators do the same. This forces players that want to play in his events to play for him. Its a business you know.

You got Hoopstars figured out exactly stripes, but name one other group in Kentucky that wont let Kentucky teams play in it? Of course, this wouldnt be a good year for most of Hoopstar teams to play the other kentucky teams

I am stumped on the other program not allowing teams/programs to participate in their events. I should know the answer.

 

In some ways its a shame. You really never get the chance to see your team's value unless you play the BEST. In any case, you can't fool the basketball junkies and recruiters. They know the circuit well. Eyes and colleges find talent regardless of the obstacles some program ops use.

Eddie Ford will not play in the KY.aau state tour. cannot expose his team to the good players in the state.Dosen't lookgood to the shoe co.

That's not the point being made. Eddie Ford will not allow other in-state KY teams participate in the tourneys in oversees. He does not wish to lose to other programs or teams that are better. THAT would not look good to him nor the shoe company and it would "expose" his teams.

Does anyone know what 17& Under teams will be in the tournament this weekend in Florence, KY?

The answer is based on what the programs goals are. In the little picture, they should and more importantly they can. AAU is what originated all the major tourneys you have today. With AAU, all teams can fill out the paperwork and enter. From an exposure standpoint, it does very little today as it once did when you won state and qualified for the nationals. Now you have various levels for given age groups such as D1 or D2 levels. The major shoe events supposedly attracts the best players so that these kids can match up and see where their talent level is. If your looking to play the game and just get better against in-state talent, then absolutely a team should play in the AAU state. If your a program just wanting to create exposure and hype for you players and team, then the state does very little for that. Programs have different agendas, but I disagree that in-state teams should be omitted from certain tourneys to protect a rep is not good.

I am happy to report that the number of AAU teams compared to last year are way up for state competition. Strong areas where most of the teams originate are N. Ky and Central Ky. Eastern Ky has made a large surge as of late with close to 20 new clubs. Keep up the good work teams. Ky set a record for teams in the National tournaments last year for this state. My team played in the nationals last year 16 and under, representing Ohio. I was suprised when we got to the national tournament in New Orleans last year that there were no teams from the state of Kentucky.

 

Was there a reason?

DS Allstars I believe won AAU state as usual, but they never play in the nationals thus earning the bid and not using it. Opting instead to go use resources to head to tourneys such as the Adidas Super 64. They generally win state for recreational purposes, not to go to the nationals.
