Highlands wins the Campbell County tourney 7th grade division by 15 pts. 3 big wins over the Camels purple team, Gray, and Georgetown. By big I mean 15 plus in each game. Salter and Huddleston are the best big combo in 7th grade. Very athletic bigs with outstanding passing skills. Highlands is a definite player in the 7th grade division.

I understand that the 6th grade Ft. Thomas/Gametime team (which is essentially the 6th grade Highlands team plus a 5th grader) also won big every game at the Campbell County tournament.

As a NewCath guy I say this with the upmost respect. That team is like when the Pangallo brothers used to play rec. ball

together. Great ball handlers, quick ball movement, decisive penetration and quick shooters. They make up for lack of height on the boards with sheer hustle and anticipation. Fun team to watch.

Highlands has a very Solid group 6-8 and I look for this group to start turning the tide for Highlands Hoops. 8th has a lot of good athletes who just need to turn up the intensity a little more consistently. The 7th has the bigs in Salter and Huddy. Throw in Ahlfeld at guard and then you look at that 6th grade group who are all very High IQ players who know how to win. Listerman has to be pretty excited about the future.

On a side note, watched Vince Rankin yesterday pretty much do whatever he wanted vs Highlands. This Kid Already has a varsity body and will be a big time player if he continues to work on his agility and quickness. The Gray 8th grade Team has some big strong kids in all positions. I ran into an old college buddy on The way out who is the Gray Principal and he said its a very good group of kids as well.

Highlands swept Camp Ernst tonight in 6th, 7th and 8th.

Chad Ohmer will not be playing 8th grade for Woodland. He will follow in his brothers footsteps, Jake Ohmer, and play on the Scott freshman team.

Hadn't heard that. They did volleyball like that 6-7 years ago, which they changed to the 6-7-8 format a couple of years ago. I can see it making sense for some of the smaller schools, and on the girls side where numbers don't seem as strong. But this would cut participation numbers at many schools on the boys side. Or some of the larger schools could put together an A and B team at the varsity or JV level. The varsity/JV format would free up the gym for more practice time.

I get paid ZERO but passed a background check. Am I qualified?

 

Seriously, I get what you are saying. I have heard some coaches getting paid between 2 and 3 grand for the season.

Highlands 8th grade Boys just lost to Gray Middle by 4 pts in the final seconds of the game on The Road. Highlands led 17-13 after 1st, 28-21 at half, 34-26 after 3rd and lost 44-40. Tough loss but kudos to Gray for clawing back at home.
