Well, if Highlands 6th grade team is primarily the Gametime team? The team that won DII (Express) beat them in the D1 tournament the weekend before and last year in DI. Maybe those school teams are better than Gametime and Force? The Go Hard In Paint team is by far the best 6th grade AAU team. After that there are several others that there is not much difference in. Who do the Beechwood kids play for in AAU?

 

Express didn't have their two best players this weekend. If they had them then yes Express would win rather easily. Without them Gametime is significantly better than Express. Thunder lost by 1pt to Express and Gametime is better than Thunder. Most of the Beechwood kids played for the Ky Bulls who won D2 last year. This year 2 of their best players play for the Cincinnati Bombers who play in the 7th grade AAU league at Landmark in Cincinnati. One plays for Thunder others play for the NKy Warriors..

Not always true. Highlands 6th and Beechwood 6th would of both won D2 this weekend imo..I was there and saw all of the teams play.

Well you are not correct. The same players that beat Gametime twice played this weekend. There were no players missing. No need to see how bad you can beat someone in pool play. Especially when you have 12-13 players.

Just curious in AAU our team has played 6th grade Force, Thunder & Gametime. Do these teams have kids from several schools. Seems like I recall somewhere in thread where Beechwood is the majority of one of these teams. All three are nice teams especially Gametime and Force.

 

AAU rule change and Bulls taking the year off changed this evaluation some, but having watched this grade level pretty closely for years this is what I would say:

 

Gametime is mostly, but not all Highlands kids (I think Beiting kid plays for CCMS).

Force is mostly IHM kids.

Thunder, I am less sure of, but I think mostly Summit View kids.

Bulls, as someone noted, didn't play this year, but that was mostly Beechwood kids with a Blessed Sacrament kid or two, I think.

 

In terms of success at state aau tourneys, this group has been extremely successful - more so than the other grades in NKY have been. Gametime has made D1 semis at least twice. Bulls won state D2 and finished 2nd twice. Force finished 2nd in D2 last two years.

 

Unlike many AAU teams, the schools have not consolidated to form one or two really good AAU teams in this grade. Look out if they do...would look a lot like the 7th grade Legends, with less height, but better shooting.

 

However, because of that Raiderbird is right. The best 7-8 from Beechwood or Gametime would be competitive to play in state with anyone except GHITP black - basically an all-star team from Jefferson Co.

Our coach was told from the Express coach that they kept the 2 best kids home so the other boys could play more.

NKY Bulls also have McClendon, 7th grade PG from Holmes (completely legit by birthdate)

Everyone has their opinion, depending on what position you would start your team with. Yet you must have not seen all of the players play in Nky, because there is a player or two in there that play in the small school division, who are as equally good as any 7th grader you may name. (Jefferson and Kremer) both true 13u and would give any player big or small a run for their money, big or small school. They both play for the Legends also.

This "true" 13u stuff is garbage. It is an insult to the kids who are in 7th grade due to early struggles in school. Yes, there is a difference in size and strength. It has always been that way. Everything will be equal in 4 years, why make a big stink of it at the 7th or 8th grade level. It is all about skill development now. If you are concerned about having a kid that was held back on your team, or your opponents team b/c it will lead to losses, then you are coaching for the wrong reasons. Develop your players and let w's take care of themselves. I know that a lot of people took advantage of the rule and would repeat 6th, 7th, or 8th grade, but a lot of kids needed the extra year in 1st or 2nd grade and get punished by this rule b/c it is too late to find new teams that play at a level that they will improve at.
