Having had four sons play the A team schedules for Pius, I can attest to the too many games. IMO not that it was too hard on the boys physically. They had no issue and would want to play games every day. The issue I had was the number of games left no time to practice. You could see at times the effect of not having practices.

I know the Rabe kid is to old on the Bulls 6 grade. I'm new to this local but I saw the Turkey Foot kid on the EYBL circuit. And some bigger Nike and Adidas tourneys. Those teams don't wear named uniforms they are usually just numbered. I wish all of them the best but playing just in NKY or greater Cincinnati isn't a way to see true talent. I just like reading so I kinda know who to look for when I go to games. Look out for 31 on Woodland 6 th grade he is a sleeper between the Profit and Niece kids as far as the 7th graders il bet the Mayer and the Disken kids can't make u13, I think makers birthdate is march? Which makes him u14 and almost sure the Hicks won't make it. Either way they are great players I'm not hear to knock anyone.

 

I know for certain that the very best two players in NKY at at the 7th grade level is Michael Mayer and Mason Rusch. Michael is the big (Saint Pius & NKY Rockets) and Mason is a point guard from Calvary Christian (Shining Stars). There is not a player in Northen Ky that can guard either one at their position. Watching Mason play his first year of AAU last year in Greater Cincy. There wasn't a kid around that could guard him. He's a soccer player that flipped for basketball. He is by far the quickest player around and can get his shot anytime he wants it. Both are true 13U players.

How did Salter and Huddleston do against Mayer? Is that why you disagree?

In that game, coaching was the difference. I think that it was Highlands' coach's 2nd or 3rd game as a head coach. Maile, obviously, will forget more basketball that I've ever known in the time that it takes me to type this post. Mayer was put in good positions. He also has some great post moves for his age. He had a spin out of the high post that was very, very impressive. I felt like Huddy did pretty well. I think that it was 12-4 in terms of scoring with Huddy getting a couple of cheap reach in fouls after rebounds that made him have to play less agressively. Huddy and Mayer match up really well against each other in terms of size and strength. Huddy seems to be a little better athlete and Mayer is more skilled. To say that Mayer is unguardable is what I was getting at. He's a stud, but he isn't the only one around.

All 3 big men are excellent players.

I did not see them against each other but a big difference in watching them play is that Highlands has 2 true inside players and Mayer is playing it alone at St Pius. Mayer is a complete player inside and stays in control of himself offensive and defensively, while I think you can get both of Highland's big men in foul trouble but they also use each other well inside with passing. The reason I agree that Mayer is the best big in the area is because he doesn't have the same kind of help.

The Mayer boys are rebounding machines. While yes they are athletic and strong, they both have that innate ability to be in right place and snatch the ball.

 

I see AJ (CCH frosh) filling in Grant Romes position next year with Michael to follow up not too long thereafter. That name will fill the REB stat line for next few years.

 

Looking forward to next years battles with Pius & Highlands tandem bigs. Three good players.

"Two best for certain" is strong. Both those kids are excellent, but I've seen both be guarded in games as well. Would agree they're two of the best...not sure how that will translate to HS, but have enjoyed watching them play so far.
