Why couldn't the other tournaments switch their times? Is it all on the director at St. Agnes to accommodate? They tried, it didn't work out with what was available and that's too bad. FWIW, they were able to switch for the 7th grade Beechwood team on multiple occasions so it's not anything against Beechwood.

 

The answer is clear. St Agnes didn't want Beechwood 6th in the tourney. They did not try to accommodate Beechwood in any meaningful way. Raiderbird is right on that point. I made sure this was fact-checked before posted. St. A only offered Beechwood times that conflicted with the small school snow-burdened schedule.

 

I'm told (not fact checked) one Beechwood parent offered to pay for gym time and referees for a match against the St. A tourney champ in 6th grade; I don't think that game was ever played, was it?

All 3 big men are excellent players.

I did not see them against each other but a big difference in watching them play is that Highlands has 2 true inside players and Mayer is playing it alone at St Pius. Mayer is a complete player inside and stays in control of himself offensive and defensively, while I think you can get both of Highland's big men in foul trouble but they also use each other well inside with passing. The reason I agree that Mayer is the best big in the area is because he doesn't have the same kind of help.

 

He is the most skilled big that I saw this year, and it really wasn't close. Huddleston has the best motor of any player that I saw, in addition to being a fantastic athlete. He's improving offensively. I wish that they would have played one more time. Next year will be fun as Huddleston will be getting some great coaching with the Legends and facing some big time competition. Isaac was really finding his offensive game towards the end of the year. A summer of working on his post moves will make him probably the most difficult to stop in the region due to his height and athleticism. He's just lacking moves in the post, though they are getting better. Can't wait to see them play next year.

With all due respect to every player in Northern Ky. Especially Huddleston. I have more adimiration for that young man than any player I know. I was college roomate's with his father and consider the entire family best friends. However, Michael Mayer is 3 to 4 inches taller. He has better skills than any kid over 5'10" in the region. He's strong and athletic. He may not have the motor Huddleston has but he has size that very few can handle. In a man to man situation he will foul out any individual player. He can be guarded in zone situations but at this age there is very few that can single handidly out play him. All the other 6'2" ish kids are too light. Who ever pointed out that the two Highlands boys have each other made a great observation. It makes a huge difference having help.

 

Mason Rusch is not well known. He plays for a small private school that plays in the Heritage league. I found him last winter at a CC game. I was a substitue coach against him in that game and could'nt find two players that could control him with a double team. From that point on, during the AAU season I never saw a single player in Greater Cincy ever guard him one on one (Man to Man). All the teams handled him with a zone. He is very small and when he has players around him it makes him a very difficult match up. He is the quickest kid I've ever coached, He's equally as competive and fearless as Huddleston. His ball handling skills are 2nd to none. If he's not the best Guard in the region then I have been missing something. Having said that. There is a kid that plays middle school ball in Frankfort. He plays for the Stallions. He is the only kid that I've seen be able to take Mason off the dribble. That kid is actually smaller and possibly the fastest kid around. Mason suffered a fractured knee cap or something similar last fall. He spent the entire winter in a full leg cast. The cast has been removed and he is rehabing it. He is about 75% now. I'm hopful that he is able to return to his previous form.

Nice, I would love to watch this game. This game will be much more than just the bigs. I don't know who the Rockets have, but I know who the Legends have. They are very deep and talented.

The Legends should have the upper hand despite the injuries. Just overall more athletic. I know they added the Beechwood player to help out. I think it is an interesting matchup. I may go up and watch it before heading down to KBA.

Legends rolled over the Rockets by about 20, although I didn't see that one. When I saw the Legends warming up for their next game, Salter wasn't there.... anyone know if Salter played against the Rockets?

Salter has been out due to injury, so hasn't played. Legends are a tough team.

They actually won the first game on Saturday by 19 (72 - 53), and then beat them today in the Championship game by 13 (57 - 44). Salter has a broken hand, and hasn't played for the last 3 weeks. He will be back in a couple weeks.

 

Like the Legends, the Rockets have good players, are well coached, and run their stuff well. The games between the Legends and the Rockets probably featured 7 or 8 of the Top 10 players at the 7th grade level in NKY.

Just curious in AAU our team has played 6th grade Force, Thunder & Gametime. Do these teams have kids from several schools. Seems like I recall somewhere in thread where Beechwood is the majority of one of these teams. All three are nice teams especially Gametime and Force.

If they are good then yes. They will have players from other teams. I know the 6th grade Highlands team is the Gametime team for the most part. Just so you know though. Once kids get around this age it is very hard for a school team to compete at an upper D2 or D1 level. It is a totally different level. A good school team can usually compete at the D3 level pretty good.

Well, if Highlands 6th grade team is primarily the Gametime team? The team that won DII (Express) beat them in the D1 tournament the weekend before and last year in DI. Maybe those school teams are better than Gametime and Force? The Go Hard In Paint team is by far the best 6th grade AAU team. After that there are several others that there is not much difference in. Who do the Beechwood kids play for in AAU?
