Reds 2015 Roster

Featured Replies

Gone: No one

Why does anyone think anyone will be gone?, the season was blamed on injuries according to the owners. The roster will be exactly the same.

Been sayin that all along. Tey'd be dumb not to move Cueto and/or Latos, at least by the deadline next season

Cueto or Latos' value will be highest at the trade deadline next year when someone really needs a pitcher, assuming both stay healthy.

A big part of me wants to say you figure out what you can offer Cueto right now, and offer it to him this offseason take it or leave it. If he says no, you move on to Latos and sign him. If he says yes, you shop Latos.

However, there is a part of me that remembers that Johnny was hurt for a long period of time last year, and wonders if he can hold up.

What is clear is that someone needs to be dealt for some legitimate prospects at some point. And that the Reds need to start developing some bats. I see some solid arms in their system. But they need to produce some of their own position players like they did in the mid-late 2000's when Votto, Bruce, Frazier, Cozart, Alonso, Grandal, Meso, etc. were coming through the system. We have riden that wave of talent for about 6 years now, and we need the new wave to develop to jump onto. That's how small market teams work.

Small market? Reds had the highest payroll in the division. They just were stupid with the way they spent it.

Lets keep this in mind because other teams might. 2014 was the first year since his rookie season that Johnny Cueto avoided the disabled list. I would not sign him long term because he is injury prone. In 2012 when he pitched the entire season, he got hurt in the first inning of the playoffs.

They can't continue to be there

I can live with the 2014 starting 7 IF they make a move at LF.

Mesoraco - hope for continued progress

Votto - no way you get any value in a trade based on his contract. Hope he returns to form.

Philliips - see Votto above

Cozart - improved defense in 2014 and hope for a bit more offense in 2015; defense up the middle; offense in the corners

Bruce - agree must discuss approach & hope for a return to the back of his baseball card #s in 2015

Hamilton - hope for more of the 1st half of the season based on learning in 2014; must become a good base stealer instead of just running fast; defense was way above expected

Bench - Pena, Negron, Schumaker. Heisey, Ludwick & Hanahan need to find a new environment. Assume Santiago will get better offers elsewhere.

Rotation - Leake & Bailey are back b/c there is likely no interest from any others.

Simon - if ANYONE offers you anything of value, take it. if not, give him a shot and see what happens (color me skeptical)

Cueto - seek value in the offseason AND make a strong long term offer so you can say you did; he will reject, but you get the PR value of saying you tried. If you don't move him for value in the offseason, wait to see where you are after the 2015 All Star Break.

Latos - see Cueto above, but can't sign both so try Latos 1st because he has a longer flight path and probably comes cheaper with a couple years short of free agency

Bullpen - Diaz in the 8th; Chapman in the 9th

A lot of hoping.

Everyone should be in conversations.

Out - Ludwig, Leake, Heisey, Santiago, Hannahan, Ondrusek, Hoover

I believe they will keep everyone else and see what happens by the All-Star Break. I don't think they'll get value for Cueto or Latos until then.

BP Isn't going anywhere but Atlanta his hometown and they won't take him. Votto is ours. Bruce might be tradeable but value will be down. Still have Meso, Frazier, Hamilton on the cheap. I'd try and get Frazier and Meso signed long term. Much cheaper now.

While BP may have been overpaid, you are proposing to get rid of a decent bat on a team that can't hit. Where will the hits come from??

You've mistaken BP for someone that can hit...

A lot of hoping.

Sad, but true. That said, the only alternative is a complete tear down & rebuild.

Texas has declined their option on OF Alex Rios. Rios hit .280 but had a down year in power, 4 HR 54 RBI. He is 34 yrs old. Is this an option for LF?

He makes over $12 million so I doubt it.

He doesn't have a contract if the Rangers declined to pick up the option.

I don't think Heisey is going anywhere. He may not contend for the starting LF position, but I think they'd like to keep him for a variety of reasons. 1.) He can play all 3 outfield positions. 2.) He's a right handed bat with some pop off the bench. And 3.) He's got decent speed.

Santiago could easily be replaced by Negron, in my opinion. (And probably should.)

Hannahan has to go. They need to have a more viable backup to Votto at first, other than Frazier or Pena, but Hannahan isn't the answer.

Diaz's performance means Ondrusek or Hoover (maybe both) are expendable, but it won't surprise me if one of them are still around.

Hoover isnt going anywhere due to the fact nobody will want a below avg pitcher.
