October 20, 201411 yr Pretty sad when we're talking about Heisey playing everyday We aren't, that is beyond ridiculous.
October 20, 201411 yr My prediction is that Heisey will be back, but not for a starting role. But the Reds will look at him as being too valuable for the reasons I mentioned before...can play all 3 outfield positions, has some RH pop off the bench, and decent speed...so, he'll be back.
October 20, 201411 yr Heisey's ceiling is as an average pinch-hitter and late inning defensive replacement. That is it. Heisey is a better than avg pinch hitter. It's EDH they need to avoid
October 20, 201411 yr Seems to me the Reds' greatest concerns are contractual. Specifically, how does the team jettison Votto's $200 million-plus contract? The sooner Walt gets rid of his contract, the better. Cards didn't hesitate to send the popular Allen Craig to Boston when he failed to produce in '14 after an injury in September of '13. Reds need to move Votto similarly. He's simply not earning his salary.

It has nothing to do with Votto's popularity, it has everything to do with his lack of intestinal fortitude and being in uniform between the lines. Has to rank as one of the worst contracts in the league.
October 20, 201411 yr Best bet may be Toronto ... Canadian kid for Canada's only team. First order of business would be to investigate the injury exit clauses of Votto's 12-year, $251.5 million contract, which he signed in April of '12.
October 20, 201411 yr Heisey is a better than avg pinch hitter. It's EDH they need to avoid Heisey as PH was .273 BA with .298 OBP which is good for the Reds. Although Pena was .368 BA with .429 OBP as a Pinch hitter.
October 21, 201411 yr Just saw that 3B Coach Steve Smith won't be back for 2015. So, they've got that going for them.
October 21, 201411 yr Just saw that 3B Coach Steve Smith won't be back for 2015. So' date=' they've got that going for them.[/quote'] So far the reds have made all the right moves this offseason.

First, the Cardinals had to give up a promising pitcher in Joe Kelly in order to get the Red Sox to take Craig's contract. I don't think the Reds have the depth in the minors to give away prospects. Second, Craig is owed a total of $25 million over 3 seasons--nothing close to what Votto is owed and nowhere near as long a contract.

There are (lingering) similarities with Votto's injury and Craig's injury. The original deal may have been Kelly for Lackey straight-up, but Cards wanted to shed Craig's salary thru '16, and Boston agreed to take on his contract. By the way, Cards saw Kelly as expendable because they never envisioned him cracking the starting lineup in '15, even though he had done creditable service as fill-in starter in past. The Votto extension is on track to being the worst contract in MLB history. The oft-injured first-baseman has earned roughly $400,000 per RBI the past three seasons.

So, what you're saying is that AJG is correct. They're not similar.
