Reds 2015 Roster

So, what you're saying is that AJG is correct. They're not similar.

What makes them different also makes them similar.

Players' production (when healthy) and lingering injuries are what's similar in my comparison. Contracts obviously are not. The questions for the Reds are numerous: Is Votto even tradeable given the $190 million or whatever remaining on his contract? How many millions would the Reds have to eat to trade him to, say, Toronto or Boston? What are the exit clauses in the Votto contract? At what point do the Reds try to cut their losses? What are the long-term effects of having Votto sit on the bench making $20 million a year while Frazier, Mesoraco even Alfredo Simon make All-Star teams? Putting Pena at first base again in '15 ain't the answer.

Kinda like the eyeball test and sabremetrics. Similar and different. I think I'm gonna take a nap now.

They're gonna try to cut ties with BP and hang him around the neck of one of the pitchers they're gonna trade when hot stove heats up. I don't think that the Votto contract is the main concern of the front office. MTGL may have a different insight but if I recall correctly, he said something similar. The Votto to his hometown BlueJays sounds cute, won't happen.

So the Reds best option of getting rid of BP is to beg him to accept a trade to a contender that is willing to eat his terrible contract and attach with that a pitcher that is an injury risk with only one year left on his deal who will be asking for a 5 year $100M+ deal? Pretty sure BP will be a Red then.

Sadly, I agree with you.

Sadly, I agree with you.

The reason I'm good with them going all in at least until the All Star break is they could probably get just as much if not more at the break for Cueto or Latos b/c they will have a chance to prove they are healthy. People wanting to deal Votto or BP have to realize it's not happening.

Cueto won 20 games, had more innings than ever, he's not an injury risk for teams at this point because of one issue with his obliques in his past.

And he won 20 with what amounts to the offensive prowess of a AA squad.

I disagree. This was only his second time over 200 innings in his career and he threw nearly 200 more innings than he did the previous year. I think teams will think he's an injury risk. If he gets to the trade deadline healthy that risk would probably be diminished in some peoples minds.

Agree with your 2nd point here. He was a freaking monster last year and can be one again if healthy. He for sure has value just not sure it's enough value to add BP to the deal for potential teams.

Well, I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder, but I can't think of a better way to announce you're not an injury risk than the 2014 season Cueto had. I'll hate to see him go.

None of it matters. I said the minute the signed a malcontent like Votto to that contract they doomed this franchise to years of mediocrity. Now the only option is to trade two established starting pitchers in an attempt to find offense? That's not a winning formula. Giving that kind of contract to a singles hitting non run producer is moronic for a team that cannot afford to gamble and miss. The Angels can survive giving Albert that contract, they just print more cash. Vottos issues run much deeper than a leg injury, guys a complete head case and that alone should have preempted that crazy contract.

If he could stay healthy he would be a big addition for the Reds offense.

Year or two too late but would still be upgrade. Unfortunately there's no way he will stay healthy for a full season with the reds.

What do they need more another swing and miss guy with nice power and no glove or a high contact guy with good OBP and a so-so glove, just asking. Morse will probably command in the $22m 2 year range and Aoki $14m 2 year range.
