I guess it's Highlands and everyone else. What else is new? Congrats to the Birds for getting it done.

This has to go down as one of the worst losses to the Bluebirds for the Blue Colonels in at least 10 years when you consider everything. Hype, supposed talent level of both teams. Worse than any of the beatings they took from the Bluebirds when Dave Brossart was the head coach. Those teams were not as talented and had checked out by the end of the year plus the Birds were extremely talented even by their standards.

Our boys had been reading the hype all summer long and so far this season. Many talked about the statement they wanted to make with this game. I think they came out a little angry. The bulletin board material helped a bit.

HHS is fast to the ball which means you better stay on your blocks .

 

Speed is all you need to know. CCH backers have been touting the large numbers they have, the size they have, and the success they had at lower levels, but it means nothing when you cannot match Highlands speed. Not sure how you teach it but it's more than just playing in the GCL prep league. Highlands has proven that.

Well after a weekend of film review, critiques, reflection, and criticism the good news for the Colonels is that should they be fortunate enough to earn a rematch they will start the game at 0-0.

Got to think that BYU recruitment pool is much smaller than someone named U because of their religious beliefs and if Beau is a 3 Star in the U pool he fits the 4-5 Star bill in BYU eyes

I was at the game and just like everyone else was expecting to see a nail biter, obviously it didn't happen. All the fans from both teams were disappointed in the out come of the game. HHS fans wanted to see a good game and CCH wanted the win.

 

My take on the hype of the game is coaches try to instill confidence in the players and the fan base takes the confidence and runs with it hook, line and sinker. Now all of a sudden, that team is ready for a state title and the parents think their little Johnny is the best kid at their position that has ever played high school football.

 

Then comes the game on Friday night. CCH takes the short ride to the stadium, while walking down the Avenue of Champions they look up at the banner of state champions from previous years. Then the CCH players have some fear, not fear of the birds, but the fear of the unknown. Everybody has some fear of the unknown whatever it may be in life, not just football. (My fear was on a plane ride after joining the military on my way to basic training.) As I mentioned in the prediction thread, if your going to beat Highlands in their own back yard, it will be something special, for sure.

 

The Bad start at the beginning of the game for CCH could have set the tone for the whole night, but I don't know for sure. Coaching was questionable.

A great example was at the state game where Collins started the game with a 94 yard touchdown drive. They started thinking we can beat this HHS team. It happened because they believed in themselves and the coaches and executed nearly a perfect game. Again, Kudos to Collins. Mind set is crucial in high school sports because we are dealing with teenagers.

I think CCH used the Middle School Gymnasium as their Pre-game locker room. Now that the old girls gym is a workout facility. Just curious how the basketball court looks after all the cleats trampled on it.

It's protected by plywood and heavy tarps.

54 sheets of 1/4" plywood go down each home game for the visiting teams.....A lot of work involved for sure. I applaud the guys who take care of the whole situation. A thankless duty for sure!

Watching the above highlights gives you an appreciation for the job the line did Friday night for Highlands. Those guys just keep getting better. I'm looking forward to watching them the rest of the year. And the defense was all over the field.!!! No one should worry about Highlands defense. Last year was an aberration.

It was my first week "taking care of it"...Its fun to say the least! But the company and conversation while we are doing it is great...so it ain't all bad!

Was talking the one of the O-line coaches on Sat and he told me that the boys are starting to finally get it.....Wow, that's a scary thought! He said it just kind of clicked this past week. With any new blocking scheme there is going to be a learning curve. Once it sets in, the technique almost looks effortless. It looked effortless at times Friday night....Wow!
