I think we're overstating how well CCH D played. They played poorly.

 

No pressure when Hoge passed. Runners getting downhill before first contact. Poor tackling. Poor coverage by LBs on passes. DBs completely confused on long TD pass.

 

Yes, CCH O didn't help the cause but , to be frank, the D stunk it up and my guess is they'll be the first to say that.

I don't know if Hoge was touched tonight while dropping back to pass. HHS players were carrying defenders 5 yards downfield after the point of contact on the majority of plays. Receivers being left wide open.

 

They had 3 nice stands but beyond that....

Did Wagner play QB the whole game? I read in the paper they had two QB's, if the offense was bad, why not change the QB? I was not at the game and have never been to a game in the past ten years.

I believe Wags was back there the whole game unless they changed after I left.

As a Beechwood fan with the Tigers playing Covington Catholic next week, I am not sure how I feel about this score. It makes me feel the Tigers have a chance at beating the Colonels. But on the other hand, if Beechwood wins it will be all about what happened to Covington Catholic and Beechwood will not get credit for beating a top level team. For that reason, I wish this game were closer.

We will meet again. As much fun as it would be, there's no sense in acting like UK1fan. But, it was good to see a dominating performance. I felt like the first half goal line stands by Covington Catholic were aided by the play calls. Very vanilla inside the 10. Highlands is the more complete team now, but you still have to get better for the November rematch.

Sidenote: HHS puts on quite the production for a game. Band was really good. National anthem was outstanding. While I thought the pre-game videoboard analysis was over the top it was very well done. Hats off to the students who put that on. And the band director directing from the middle of the stands was a new one for me as well. Young lady was working hard.

 

Other than the egg laid by the Colonels it was a great atmosphere in Ft Thomas.

I thought so; Cov Cath couldn't match their speed and athleticism. On top of it, the Colonels were undisciplined from most of what I saw. The Colonels weren't bad defensively in the first half; next half was flat out ugly on both sides of the ball. I left when it was 28-0 near the end of the 3rd quarter.
