This game may have been more fun than the 69-0 game a few years ago. I'm sure Highlands will be just as excited if not more for the rematch.

Was talking the one of the O-line coaches on Sat and he told me that the boys are starting to finally get it.....Wow, that's a scary thought! He said it just kind of clicked this past week. With any new blocking scheme there is going to be a learning curve. Once it sets in, the technique almost looks effortless. It looked effortless at times Friday night....Wow!

Great video, nice game by HHS. Refreshing to see them passing the ball using short routes instead of every throw having to be at least 30 yards down field as in past years.

This! I think this is a huge part of their improvement as well. When they are able to read and hit some mid-range routes, this team is scary good! It just opens up so much for them! What else is scary is Hoge keeps getting better and better.

Here's the cold hard facts. In the 9 games that CovCath and Highlands have met with the current Off. Coordinator and HC at CovCath in place, only twice has the offense scored 20 or more points in a game. The one notable exception was in 2011 when they ran the ball 47 times and scored 37 points. That same year in the playoffs they ran it 25 times, and scored only 14 points. Something has to change about the offensive game plan for CovCath. In 6 of those 9 games I believe Highlands was simply a better athletic and more talented football team. Vince Lombardi on the CovCath side probably wouldn't have made a difference. However, to continually try to attack Highlands by using the same or similar game plan is by definition insanity.

 

This year there is not an athletic advantage on the Highlands side. Please don't take that as a negative comment on Highlands, just the opposite. Highlands is able to get more out of the average athlete than any other school in the Tri-state. They instill a TEAM 1st outlook from top to bottom in the program. However, the reality is this year's team is not as gifted athletically as many of the previous teams.

 

CovCath's offense needs to be geared toward what will allow them to beat Highlands, not to put up 40 points on inferior opponents. Establish a power running game that takes advantage of the big Offensive lineman that are in the program. Eat the clock on offense. Put TE type bodies on the edge that can block a safety or LB in space for more than 2 seconds.

 

Maybe that won't work either, and Highlands will continue to dominate. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but this much I know. If you continue to try the things that have been done the majority of the past 9 contests, Highlands will win by double digits again!

Excuse my ignorance but if HHS checks in WR's each play, doesn't the defense get time (granted by the ref) to make lineup substitutions as well? I am assuming HHS is still doing that, I didn't see the game. If so, I would slowly trudge out a couple different players each play to rearrange the defense. I'm not surprised by the win, but maybe the score. The fact that Henderson was leading CCH at halftime told me a little something about CCH.

CCH outscored Henderson 35-7 second half, not sure what being behind at half would tell you about them other than they got off to a slow start.

Well they gave up 28 points and were being beaten by a team 1/2 way through that Madisonville ripped 49-0 AT Henderson. CCath was at home, that tells me they weren't really a dominant team.

Ok, not sure how one half can tell you all you need to know about a team. Last I heard there are two halves to a football game, halftime means nothing. Dominant teams can get off to slow starts and a 35-7 half is pretty dominating. I don't think CCH is a dominant team although they dominated a pretty good 6A Dixie. I do think they're probably a lot better team than they showed Friday night.

I get what you are saying, but if you watched that game and didn't see an athletic difference along the lines and in each team's front 7, I really want to know what game you watched. Maybe CovCath has some speedy receivers, and Wagner can really run, but overall, it wasn't close.

Are you saying you didn't love CovCath running 313 plays east and west and then 178 QB dives between the tackles? Crazy. :bunny:

They were gutting CovCath's front 7, and a couple of CovCath's LB's are either incredibly slow (which I don't think is the case), or they were in their own heads a lot and slow to react. HHS' Hoge does a nice job with the ball and keeps guys on their toes with where it will end up.

Highlands offensive line always seem to play better when they are slightly under sized. I think it is better suited for the offense they play.

As a Beechwood fan with the Tigers playing Covington Catholic next week, I am not sure how I feel about this score. It makes me feel the Tigers have a chance at beating the Colonels. But on the other hand, if Beechwood wins it will be all about what happened to Covington Catholic and Beechwood will not get credit for beating a top level team. For that reason, I wish this game were closer.

 

If I were a Beechwood fan I would fear this game immensely! CCH will bring some severe pain to the Tigers! This will be a very lopsided game for sure.
