CCH corner was running out to cover short side split end, ball was snapped and the play ran right into the adjusting defensive back. WR had no chance of making the block because the DB was not in his normal position. Oh and BTW he was one of 12 defenders on the field for the Colonels.

HHS has millions. CovCath has $200,000 from the Bengals so they can pay for turf to get driven through by Highlands. Oh how fitting for CovCath.

If you are going to kick the FG from that close and the ball on the hash, you are always better off taking 1 or 2 5 yd. penalties to make the angle better. Whether real or perceived, a short FG (ball snapped from inside the 10 or so) from a hash is a very difficult kick. You feel like you are trying to slide a quarter in the slot of a soda machine!!!

Tough angle for sure, but makeable with a little adjustment to the approach IMO. Would like to see them try a few along the way because you never know when you are going to need one to win a game or extend it to overtime.

I agree with this!!!! With the leg our outstanding young kicker has, I too would like to make that part of the trusted arsenal. What a weapon to have. But I would like him to be "game tested" for when we need the golden leg. What weapon though. I haven't seen all the games, but there aren't too many kickoffs that are able to be returned with Daugherty booting it!!!! He makes watching the kicking game fun!

Unless you are on the kicking team dreaming of that tackle. He makes the kicking game boring which is exactly what a team wants (no returns). I am too in the house of letting him boot a few from distance. It sure would be nice to beat the GCL on a kick. Nice weapon!!!

My observations maybe skewed because I have watched the Colonels pretty closely over tha past few years. I'll grant that as far as quickness and agility Highlands O-line is way ahead of CovCath's. I will also tell you that the Colonels d-line is for the most part a very athletic group. If you don't believe me either watch the Moeller film, or talk to the Moeller offensive Line coach. He commented on the athleticism. They were undersized and thus outmanned against Moeller, but that is was not the case against Highlands. Their techniques were poor, and as the game wore on and apparently their stamina lessened it got worse and worse. Their play after the 1st quarter looked like they had run a 10k before playing.

 

As far as LB's go I would agree, with the exception of Pitzer HHS is much more athletic and fundamentally sound at that position.

 

Overall I stand by my statemnt that athletically there is not an overall advantage in Ft. Thomas this year. The teams are very evenly matched.

 

If Highlands is able to play Elder a close game I will admit my assesment is wrong and that there is still an Athletic advantage in Ft. Thomas.

 

 

 

This is the part that confuses me...

 

Highlands football players and program are not looking for a close game they are looking for a win and will accept nothing less and this might be the part that separates these two programs by about 5 yrs still imo:thumb:

 

Sorry to point this out, but I have just have never heard anyone close to the program ever say "oh, I hope we can keep it close"

After reading all 11 pages and listening to the disgust of play by some of the Blueboy faithful I am just beginning to wonder if Wirth knew this game was over because his game plan was totally wrong for this Highlands team and decided to lay down.

 

Could he have decided at halftime that the best thing to do for the team was to throw the towel in and not show his hand? The offensive play selection would certainly suggest it, the lack of enthusiasm by the players coming out after halftime only down by 14 would also suggest it...Keep in mind these are not my thoughts or comments but the talk of CovCath followers and alumn

 

I am beginning to wonder, something just isn't right with the outcome of this game. I guess the plan would be to let Highlands trounce them and let Highlands think they are that much superior to CovCath and then drop the bomb on them in Nov...IDK,

 

Just some crazy thoughts going through my head...Is Dave Wirth laying in the weeds for Highlands and did he do something that will leave Highlands scratching their heads the second go round?
