I get what you are saying, but if you watched that game and didn't see an athletic difference along the lines and in each team's front 7, I really want to know what game you watched. Maybe CovCath has some speedy receivers, and Wagner can really run, but overall, it wasn't close.

 

My observations maybe skewed because I have watched the Colonels pretty closely over tha past few years. I'll grant that as far as quickness and agility Highlands O-line is way ahead of CovCath's. I will also tell you that the Colonels d-line is for the most part a very athletic group. If you don't believe me either watch the Moeller film, or talk to the Moeller offensive Line coach. He commented on the athleticism. They were undersized and thus outmanned against Moeller, but that is was not the case against Highlands. Their techniques were poor, and as the game wore on and apparently their stamina lessened it got worse and worse. Their play after the 1st quarter looked like they had run a 10k before playing.

 

As far as LB's go I would agree, with the exception of Pitzer HHS is much more athletic and fundamentally sound at that position.

 

Overall I stand by my statemnt that athletically there is not an overall advantage in Ft. Thomas this year. The teams are very evenly matched.

 

If Highlands is able to play Elder a close game I will admit my assesment is wrong and that there is still an Athletic advantage in Ft. Thomas.

Any thoughts as to why this would be? Some deficiencies in athletics are driven by skill, ability, and God given talent; however, fitness is not one of them. It would seem this would be easy to address.

If that is true, is the score more lopsided than the game actually was, especially in the first half? Yardage stats would be interesting to see.

No idea on stats. The game felt like a bigger margin in the first half than it actually was due to HHS not completing drives.

I'll answer your question as good as I can remember. The first qtr, CC moved the ball a little. But nowhere near where someone would say they ran up and down and just couldn't convert. Not the case at all. They really only had about 3-5 really nice plays in the game. A long qb run up the middle from the 1 yard line, a really nice scramble and toss for a nice gain and a few others. Outside of that, it was pretty much dominated by the HHS defense. If the yardage shows to be not that much difference, then its because of a few long plays. Not drives. Cov Cath did also have some mistakes that put them in tough situations, but if you took ALL of those away, it was still a dominating performance by the Birds. I'm not saying that to rub it in the CC faces, it just was and I think even HHS fans were a little surprised to see it. Not shocked that the boys had it in them, but just surprised how far they have come and how well-oiled the Birds looked.

Their first drive ended with a 4th and 3 incomplete pass from the HHS 21. Got inside the HHS 40 on two other drives but gave the ball up on downs each time.
