Bengals & NFL Donate to Covington Catholic

Featured Replies

Can't just about every school make this claim to a point? It really doesn't matter to me that Cov Cath got the money. It's not their fault for asking! It's one of those "if you don't ask, you never knows" for me. Good for them for asking.

However, unless many others just didn't apply, I agree that the Bengals may have missed the mark here. But if no one from a less fortunate school took the time, then there is no fault here at all.

I'm kind of with you, in all honesty...I'm not going to knock Cov Cath for asking by any means though.

I was just offering an explanation of how the can fit into the parameters of the program's requirements. It's a fact that Prince of Peace parish in Covington and St. Boniface & St. James parish in Ludlow both fall into the district served by Cov Cath, and those areas are undoubtedly low to moderate-income.

Blue Collar Cooper (hard working folks) work concessions stands weekly at PBS to raise funds. I wonder if the AD requested the grant as well? Cooper sure could use a new turf field there as well.

Inner city Park Hills, KY.

I went to Cov. Cath. from St. Augustine Parish in Peaselburg (Covington). Don't recall any Cadillacs on the block.

You must have been pretty impressed when you arrived at CCH and saw all of those Rolls Royces & Bentleys in the parking lot, huh?

I think by district St. Augustine parish is considered to be Holy Cross territory these days (may well have been when you attended Cov Cath as well), but that's my point exactly. There may be a good number of kids who grew up in Vanilla Hills walking the halls of Cov Cath, but that doesn't mean there aren't kids that grew up living next to Goebel Park doing the same.

:lol2:

In all honesty, in my day there were ten jalopies in Cov Cath's parking lot for every one in Beechwood's. Why? Because there were more Beechwood parents who could afford decent cars for their 16 and 17 year olds since they weren't shelling out $5-6K per year for their tuition. Also for what it's worth, Cov Cath is currently almost $8K a year.

Not to mention the chauffeurs.

Newcath could use the money. Buy up that land at bottom of hill build a field. The bishop calls it inner city

Congrats to Cov Cath !!! In looking thru the NFLfoundation website my guess would think that the Middle School Program has helped them get this grant. Copied from the site:

Each year, applicants who demonstrate a willingness to provide for continuing maintenance and field safety, and who seek to involve youth football programs that are part of the USA Football Heads Up Football initiative, are given special consideration

For everyone who is for some reason critical that the money is going to an already "well-off" school, relax. Yes, there are plenty of students/families who are well off, but keep in mind last year alone Covington Catholic families receieved more than $435,000 in financial aid. ( Covington Catholic High School: Tuition Assistance )

I'm aware that this is the case at a lot of schools but since CCH has the reputation as a white-collar family place, I want to give a friendly reminder that there are plenty of blue-collar families as well.

Don't be surprised of you see this guy coming over to the visitor stands during all Cov Cath home games!

In his short time at NewCath, Eddie was better as raising funds for the new rennovations than he was at coaching football.

You can Bob Noll and Carl Foster to the list as well. Both worked their rears off securing funds for NewCath.

I say good for Cov Cath. Shame on all the schools that didn't apply. Our birds need a new field but I'm not going to dis the fundraisers for being good at paperwork and finding the money. I would say we can all take a lesson from this.

Blue Collar Cooper

If you're being sarcastic, I whiffed...sorry.

If you're being serious, please also admit there are plenty of white collar neighborhoods that feed into Cooper. Plenty. I think Conner (which has their fair share of white collar kids too, obviously) and Boone would have to scoff at your "blue collar Cooper" comment.
