Please, don't get Hellbird started on the Bengals .... :lol2:

Folks in BC need something to get mad about to get their facilities improved. HB can't say much about the Bengals now, some people think they are the best team in the NFL.

This has nothing to do with Boone County.

About the Program

The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program is a partnership of the NFL Foundation, which provides funding for the Program, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), which provides technical assistance and manages the Program. The goal of the Program is to provide non-profit, neighborhood-based organizations with financial and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields. The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program provides grants of up to $200,000 for capital improvement projects.

Since 1998, more than $35 million in NFL Grassroots field grants has been awarded for 273 projects in more than 70 cities nationwide.

In order to be eligible for a grant under the Program, projects must be sponsored by non-profit community-based organizations registered as exempt from Federal Income Tax under Internal Revenue Service Code Section 501©(3) or middle or high schools. In addition, all organizations applying for funds must be located specifically and exclusively within NFL Target Markets, listed in Attachment A and serve low to moderate-income areas within those markets. Please see the RFP for complete details.

The 2014 Grassroots RFP is expected to be available in September 2014.

I have never thought of CovCath as a low or moderate income school. :idunno:

What a shame that they chose a private school with all well to do folks. They missed the boat here they could have done wonders with the money for kids who need an edge up.

If you read that again, though, it says "all organizations applying for funds must be located specifically and exclusively within NFL Target Markets, listed in Attachment A and serve low to moderate-income areas within those markets".

The word 'serve' is the kicker there. Cov Cath definitely serves low to moderate-income areas. The majority of the student body at large may not be representative of those areas, but there are definitely students coming from those areas nonetheless.

Can you say "Competitive advantage"??????? I would say the ire of some folks in Boone County would be raised by something like this. If I had a kid that was early in his career, I might organize a Bengal Boycott with the funds going to facility improvements!

REALLY?

i know a public high school in Owensboro that got a new football field, weightroom, soccer field, basketball areana, baseball field, tennis complex, new middle school in the last 5 years. Didn't raise one dime from donations, BUT raised everyone's property taxes.

So who really has the clear advantage. Just like anything else. POLITICS POLITICS. If a public school wants to increase the budget, increase taxes. SPEND, SPEND SPEND.

Don't start me on school funding, total joke...

To me the only difference is CCH has people working on finding money, soliciting money and making it happen. People there work their tails off raising money and this is a prime example of it. Bet not many if any others applied for the grant.

Let's put it this way, some private school systems have no policy on soliciting money and some do. If you want to get started on that feel free.....

The publics have a huge advantage in some places.

It is obvious that you no nothing about the sacrifices parents make to sent there kids to private school.

Years ago the CCH principal told me it's almost a full-time job when it comes to looking for grants.
