However, the "Boone County Schools" issue is tiresome. Not even sure how they come into this discussion unless they also applied and didn't get the grant.

How about some $$$ for a new bus. Old Blue has seen better days. I saw it parked at the Crescent Springs/Villa Hills Fire Department Sunday morning early. Not sure why.

When my oldest boy played frosh (or maybe JV ) ball they took a bus that said the name of a school system in Indiana.

To me the only difference is CCH has people working on finding money, soliciting money and making it happen. People there work their tails off raising money and this is a prime example of it. Bet not many if any others applied for the grant.

A Joe Walter connection doesn't make any sense to me either (and for the record everyone I think highly of Joe Walter).

 

I think the paNDA and some others nailed it, CCH has some smart people on-board and this is just one example.

 

For the NFL, I think it is GREAT they are putting money into high school athletics and hopefully this wakes everyone else up that there is money to be had for those schools that are willing to work for it.

I love when a story unfolds! If CovCath applied for this grant and met the requirements of receiving the funds, I have no problem with it and like I said, Congrats to them! I would have liked seeing an inner city school win though.

Agreed. And for the record, my post earlier about his son attending Cov Cath was sarcasm. I think in the end, the biggest favor he'll have been able to pull for Cov Cath is getting those members of the '88 Bengals to come to Sportsfest last year.

You know how it is, with most public schools it is happenstance.

 

But I agree with your point, it really is a shame that most public high schools don't go the extra mile no matter the circumstances.

In his short time at NewCath, Eddie was better as raising funds for the new rennovations than he was at coaching football.

If you read that again, though, it says "all organizations applying for funds must be located specifically and exclusively within NFL Target Markets, listed in Attachment A and serve low to moderate-income areas within those markets".

 

The word 'serve' is the kicker there. Cov Cath definitely serves low to moderate-income areas. The majority of the student body at large may not be representative of those areas, but there are definitely students coming from those areas nonetheless.

 

Can't just about every school make this claim to a point? It really doesn't matter to me that Cov Cath got the money. It's not their fault for asking! It's one of those "if you don't ask, you never knows" for me. Good for them for asking.

 

However, unless many others just didn't apply, I agree that the Bengals may have missed the mark here. But if no one from a less fortunate school took the time, then there is no fault here at all.
