Bengals & NFL Donate to Covington Catholic

Featured Replies

All this arguing and, in a nutshell, it comes down to this. The wannabe cake-eaters, or junior cake-eaters if you will, beat the system again. The claims of poverty by CovCath supporters is a joke. They beat the system like they always do. With influence and manipulation. The Bengals give that money to whoever they want and CovCath has the tools in place to steal it away from schools that deserve it. That money should have gone to an organization that rightfully deserves it and doesn't have the boosters involved who have the means to write a check for that amount. Let's be honest here. That money should have gone to youth football. Numbers are declining everywhere in youth football. The NKYFL plays at Mills Rd. primarily and the kids are playing on dirt fields up there. They "SERVE" Bellevue, Dayton, Newport, Covington, Ludlow, and Erlanger to name the primary impoverised areas. Those who say that CovCath has the people in place to raise funds are right. All of the private schools do and some are better at it than others but I am crying foul here. My despise for CovCath and the people who represent it run deep and this is another good reason to hate them with all my soul. They have ruined the spirit of charity by stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. Sleep well, CovCath. Oh and GO RAVENS!!!

Yeah this thread is laughable. I'm glad CovCath got the money. Does anyone know if any of the other schools eligible applied for the same grant?

Dayton applied for the grant. We have 85% free and reduced lunch. 200,000 could have helped us repair our stadium that was built in the 1920's.

Thanks for the info. I think Dayton has a legitimate gripe in this one.

What is comes down to, if your school did not apply then you can't complain about anything (not saying you are, just in general).

If you don't ask for the sale you'll never get it....Similarly, years ago Reds Community Fund had money burning a whole in their pocket. No one asked for any money. Covington jumped in and they re-did a ton of fields. Now everyone is learning how to apply and get their fields fixed.

From what I understand, and there are many things I don't understand. Showing that the grant money will benefit a large number of students, area youth programs, and so on carries a great deal of weight in the decision making process.

The Bengals/NFL help out a lot of schools that are putting in turf fields. From what I understand, if you can show that you have 75-80% percent of the needed funds accounted for your renovation of field or complex, then you can apply for a grant/donation and the Bengals/NFL will complete the rest. I believe this is more common than what many believe.

Holmes is embarking on a campaign through the Tom Ellis Foundation in trying to raise funds for a new turf field, track, scoreboard and other items at Holmes Stadium. From what I gather, if they hit a certain benchmark in fundraising then they can appeal to the Bengals/NFL for money to close the deal.

They really need to upgrade the playing field at Holmes and other areas around the stadium, including a new track and so forth.

Why not my school, we need stuff too. More reason to root against Bengals now and spread the word they don't care about us.

Years ago the CCH principal told me it's almost a full-time job when it comes to looking for grants.

All private schools have to have people on staff who know how to effectively write a grant application and to solicit local businesses/donors/organizations.

I'm surprised that public schools do not take this route.

I was going to post the same thing. :thumb:

I think BigDaddy06 might be interested.

Did your school apply for the grant?

Dayton applied for the grant. We have 85% free and reduced lunch. 200,000 could have helped us repair our stadium that was built in the 1920's.

Does Dayton have the necessary matching funds?

Does Dayton have the necessary matching funds?

Does it say you have to match the funds to receive the 200k?

With 85% free and reduced lunch, where is the money going to come from?

Does it say you have to match the funds to receive the 200k?

Yes. Somewhere in one of these 178 posts is one from CWB, I think, that stated that funds have to be matched.

I believe the 200K has to go towards turf. It also must be matched by the district. You cannot use the money for repairs etc. There are other grants for that.
