Not quite. I'm actually dead serious. You can't seriously think Cov Cath needed this money more than other schools in this area. Sad if you do. I feel bad.

I understand "need" wasn't mentioned. I understand it was business. CovCath has high income parents that send their kids to this school. Therefore, in return they are expecting to get more support from the CovCath community for this generous, to say the least, donation. They want these above-average income adults to come to Bengals games, buy Bengals merchandise. Listen, I get it. We all get it. Parents in Dayton likely aren't going to have a whole lot of extra money to attend Bengals games and such. But come on man. Yeah, they asked for the money and they got it. But you seriously can't feel right about that. My stomach churns over it and I don't even like CCH.

 

Be honest. That's the real reason you don't like that CCH received this grant. It's ok to say it.

I am not sure about the other schools you mentioned, but you have Beechwood wrong.

 

There was fundraising and a certain person by the last name of Daniels donated a very large amount for the turf.

I think everyone hating against Cov Cath getting money is funny!! Haters going to hate! Whoever is complaining needs to realize the following:

 

How did Beechwood getting a new field and locker room ? It wasn't by fundraising!!!!

 

How did Scott get a new field? It wasn't by raising money on their own!!

 

How did Dixie get a new field? It wasn't from raising money on their own!

 

How is highlands getting new buildings for sports? It wasn't from them raising money on their own!!

Cov Cath doesn't get any money from the State like every other school so why does it matter if they get some money from the NFL!!

WRONG! - Just like everyone in this thread, you are making broad statements that are not true. ]

 

Beechwood's field was paid for with some significant donations from a couple famies and a lot of "fund raising". Not a single penny of Tax Payer dollars or money from the State. Same thing with the Turf Replacement that should take place in the next few years.

 

In the case of the Athletic Building, I am not certain about it all, but a significant portion came from Private Donations.

 

As for the new Cafeteria that completed the amazing look of the complex... That WAS a combination of capital improvement money, grants and other state money, but its part of the needed school infrastructure. Just worked out that we had an amazing architect to design that to pull it all together.

 

 

For the record, I have no issue with CCH getting the money. Sounds like there weren't a whole lot of projects that could meet the criteria. The NFL establishes the program and sets up the system for Schools and organizations to apply. If you don't apply or don't meet the criteria, then you can't complain.

 

One thing that the haters fail to realize is that every kid going to a Private school is thousands of Tax Dollars saved to be used for the public schools. I'm glad they are here to ease the burden on Public school finances.

 

Since a number of people mentioned Mills Rd facility. Please look at where the real problem is. Its the Kenton Co Commissioners and Scott Gunning (Parks Director). If you have a problem with the conditions at Mills Rd, I would suggest you attend a Commissioners meeting and ask some questions.

um, where does the money for capital improvements come from......ultimately must come from tax dollars.

Do people really believe that the Bengals/NFL shunned all of the low income areas and decided to give this money to the rich? Couple things have to happen to get the grant. 1st: you have to apply. That is a novel idea. 2: you have to be able to show matching funds and some type of investment 3: The 200K grant must be used on turf.

The school district’s administration, staff, booster organizations and community leaders have formed a “Fields of Dreams” campaign to privately raise money for the sports complex. Those with a problem had just as much of an opportunity as CovCath to fill out the necessary paperwork to be considered. If you didn't complete the paperwork you have no reason to complain.

 

Just a question, does Cov Cath have a person or persons on staff that write or apply for these grants or is it a volunteer position? I know they have a wonderful alumni network that I believe is a paid position. The newsletters, emails etc. to alumnus is fabulous. I believe that is a huge reason they have so much support, keeping alumni "in the know" keeps them excited and proud of their alma mater. It is hard to get that kind of dedication from volunteers these days. Just a thought.

Karma is a real thing as I think the football Colonels are finding out...."grant" gets awarded, football Colonels get hammered on the field in two very highly publicized games, embarrassing losses. I am mainly a volleyball/soccer follower and, usually, a big fan of CCH but this whole thing doesn't pass the smell test.

 

CCH gets their "grant" and lose in so many other ways...even the untouchable Crazies are being criticized. Cheaters never win. I find it very sad. I hope the karma bus moves on.
