Cov Cath already has a more-than-full schedule of games and practices being played on that field between varsity/jv/frosh/7th-8th middle school/5th-6th middle school football, varsity/jv/frosh soccer, and the occasional St. Agnes soccer game. Moving another entire team's schedule into the mix is not an option.

Wouldn't Saturday night be the optimal time for a HS football player? Can sleep in and rest all day instead of getting up for, and going to, school.

 

There is a whole world of select/club/AAU/travel players in almost every sport that have to play in tournaments starting at 7am, 8am, or first light. Doesn't seem to hurt their performance. You can't tell me playing football early is any different.

Yes, the same rules apply. Officials do have the discretion to stop the game and/or implement additional rest/water breaks.

In addition, the are travel issues, ie leaving very early in the morning. Games between local teams aren't really an issue, but if there is any distance to travel, as Ram mentioned, you'll be leaving very early in the morning.

I was at the Covcath-Lasalle game on a Saturday at Covcath a few years ago. It was scorching hot and Covcath was getting beat pretty bad very quickly. Details are sketchy now. But, I remember they canceled the second half. I don't know if it was because of heat or the score, but they didn't offer to give the fans half their money back. I know it was a releif to Covcath fans, but I felt like I got ripped off. I came to watch my nephew play for LaSalle and only got to see a half. Play it whenever you are sure you can get in the whole game.

 

That game was cancelled because of the heat, and I got that from the officials themselves.

That game started early, 10:00 but it was will into the 90's before the game started.

Friday is calling for the same forecast as Saturday High about 90, so if Friday feels uncomfortable at 1:00 they will likely move it, hope not

Justify it how ever far you have to stretch your examples, but it is obvious that if CovCath has varsity games at 10am those will be the only 10am varsity games in the entire state for the entire season. Sure, everyone else is wrong.

It's OTO at 10am, for a legit reason, and I don't see why that is such a problem for you. JV does it every week. Players are so ready for the season to start, they'd play on a parking lot at midnight right now if they could. Feel free to sleep in Sat at 10.

JV in NKY does that, not anywhere else. Just in case it wasn't so obvious. Seems to me that you would probably defend playing a football game at 10am no matter what, have at it, tell me how it's how football should be, tell me how the players would fight to get to play at 10am. Tell me how a JV and Varsity game are basically the same. Let's hear it.

Moving the game to 10 really is not that big of a deal. Would most people prefer a Friday night game? Yeah, no doubt. I know I would. But for this situation it is probably what is best (provided the weather forecast remains the same). CovCath will not want to give up a gate and it would probably be tough to give Boone 48 hours of notice to host a game. Yes, NKY is the only place the regularly plays JV games on Saturday but these are two NKY teams. IMO playing on Friday night is a better atmosphere than Saturday afternoon. No one is saying playing the game Saturday morning is an ideal situation but it is not a horrible situation either. It is probably the best option to go with if it does get that hot. This is probably being made a bigger deal of than it should.

10:00 is fine. Friday is not an option. CCH isn't giving up a home game. Players can get ready for a 10:00 game. They don't need much time.

I'm allowed to be "jacked up". I think it's a "ridiculous" notion to play a football game at 10am, and it appears that I'm not the only one. I don't know a person on the team, but I think it's unfair to the kids on both teams, and looks like others would think the same. CovCath will make more money playing it at 10am then they would moving it to Boone County, wouldn't they? Nah, of course not, couldn't be that.

 

Tell me any school in America (high school, college, prep school, anyone) that plays a varsity, or above, game at 10am and I will let it go.
