Your Favorite Place to Watch a HS Football Game

I attended an Ohio regional playoff game in Jackson Ohio a couple years back.

The Ironmen play at Holzer Stadium and it was huge and was rocking that night vs. the Mighty Minford Falcons

It was a great atmosphere on a cold fall night. Loved it.

David Cecil Memorial Stadium between the north end 45 yard line and midfield, about 8 rows up. Second is Elder's pit.

Besides Raceland's Ram Stadium, for obvious reason I love Putnam Stadium in Ashland, KY.. Their field is always "groomed" perfectly, it's an old and historical stadium / landmark in Ashland. This season they have renovated the stadium, seating from where the wear and tear through the years had taken it's toll. I believe that they will be installing field turf there next season but with the way they keep their playing surface up, always in perfect condotion it is the next thing to the turf.

From SCKY and WKY...

Russellville....it's an old WPA stadium built into the side of a mountain complete with an endzone corner that rises up about 8 feet above the level playing field.

Rash Stadium (Owensboro Sr.)...complete with houses all around and bleachers built tight to a turf field that is beautiful. Plus, back in the 90's when Owensboro was rocking, and the fans were mean, it was one of the nastiest places to play. Seen a few batteries flying through the air on the way to locker rooms there. My kind of place.

Lone Oak...gone now, but while it was a rickety old stadium with awful amenities, the sound system was like something from the NFL and they weren't afraid to use it on you...and their fans were nuts.

Bell Co. has a nice stadium and I would have to go with the Stadium of Champions in Christian Co. Has a lot of seating on both sides. Just can't go with Highlands. All the stands are on one side, now atmosphere yes.

I'm going to jump across the river and say Elders Pit. I'm not a Elder fan at all. But there is def a electric feel to their games. That's probably why it's consistently ranked as one of the top places to watch a game in the country

The pit is an awesome stadium with a great atmosphere. It would best any in Kentucky in my opinion.

Make sure you're wearing purple if you're on the home side. Those guys will heckle you all game.

If you've not been, most of the home side of the Pit is season ticket holders with reserved seats.

The field crew at Putnam is great, has been since Doug Childers was running it, I believe Steve Conley is the grounds keeper now.

I will be sad to see them go to turf myself, but I guess it is just a change of the times. Our region isn't a good region for Bermuda grass, but they have done a great job with it given our climate.

Two of my favorite places I've been to are Meade County and Owensboro's Rash Stadium.

I was there once, about 7 or so years ago for an Elder/Cinci St X game. It was the best atmosphere I've ever seen for a high school game, those two teams seem to hate each other.

I love the atmosphere at Ludlow, down by the river, crisp autumn evening...real grass, the whole setting takes me back a few years, I just enjoy the environment.

My favorite stadium of course is Paducah Tilghman. It can seat 8,500 but can cram around 11,000. Plenty of box seats, standing room around the field, and several places to get refreshments and souvenirs. The stadium always gets an A+ rating by the KHSAA.

Bell Co.

For those who have not been there.

I kind of like it myself.

I'm going to have to put one that hasn't been named I don't think. My favorite stadium in NKY, Dixie and the best stadium in the state hands down, Harlan County's Coal miners stadium. Awesome setting at the foot of the mountain and state of the art stadium. The first Ky high school stadium that I saw with a Jumbo Tron, now all the new facilities are getting them.

Dixie has a beautiful complex but it has it's flaws. The visitor side is a joke and I hate the gate running around the outside of the track. I used to love setting up shop in the end zone at Rice-Mountjoy.
