Cop in question says the kid "kept reaching in his waistband" and that there was a gun found at the scene. Cop may be telling the complete truth, but looking at his history, which includes a suspension for drinking on the job as off duty security while employed as a cop and reports of racist incidents being filed on three separate occasions, one of which leading to a 45 day suspension, he's going to have a hard time convincing people he's on the straight and narrow. Cop says that the drivers were arguing after one car bumped another.

 

Witnesses (even those not in the car) say there was no car accident. Witnesses say there was no argument. Four passengers in the car say they didn't have a gun. Passengers said he left the car because he felt threatened by the cop.

 

Someone is lying.

 

No questions about the fact that the guy was shot in the back while walking away though. Also no question about the fact that although the officer was off-duty, that he was still in uniform at the time.

 

 

Even IF there was actually a gun found at the scene that was the deceased's, keep in mind that this is Texas and 90 year old grandmas carry guns in their car here, so it's not like a registered gun is really something abnormal.

I hope I don't get shot next time I get pulled over... This stuff is WAY out of hand at this point.

Their story: they'd just left a protest. Ironically enough, of 13 people arrested for curfew violations that night, something like 7 to 9 were protestors.

 

I've yet to see a peaceful nighttime protest in Ferguson. I wouldn't be outside at night period and I definitely wouldn't be outside after curfew. I'm not giving anyone an excuse to arrest me.

Things are getting worse by the day in this country. It's the worst I've seen it in my life. Social media fans those flames IMO.

 

What is getting worse by the day? I am not sure if the numbers are reflective of that, meaning violent crime or police brutality, but you are correct with the social media folks fanning flames. And with that, perception is reality. The perception is that cops go around shooting innocent folks, minding their own business all the time. 1 time is too many, but 1 time become multiplied by 50,000 with social media.

I'm strictly talking about racism and race relations. The things I see people say on Facebook and twitter these days is depressing. I can't recall a time in my life when racism was as openly accepted as it is now. And that goes for all sides. People say one thing and then they get support and get more brave and start talking louder. When a news story breaks out and Lex18 reports it on their Facebook page a race war breaks out everytime. It's truly depressing.

I'd imagine it's always been there, more people just have a public soapbox now.

It seems as if there are two shifts of people on the streets in Ferguson. Peaceful demonstrators during the day and then people looking to loot, throw Molotov Cocktails and tear their own community apart.

 

Just saw a surveillance video on tv of a liquor store getting looted. Looters all had their faces covered and were trying to smash open the door or windows with bricks, then one guy pulls out a pistol and shoots the store breaking either the door or window allowing the other access.

You are so right. It seems whenever someone states their opinion on social media and get a couple people to agree with them no matter if they are right or wrong, they just become louder and it seems to spread. It happens with politics and this subject.

 

Now I don't know if "Racism" is getting worse, but I do think the subject itself has become too easy to label people or individual incidents with the racism label whether it is actually racism that led to the incident or if labeling it that gives the person or organization publicity to carry out their personal agenda. No matter what it is, you are 110% correct that when someone makes a statement about their opinion on the subject on social media all you need is 1 person to agree to give them more ammunition to keep bringing it up etc.

I could not agree more...people on all sides need to get past seeing race and racism in every event. I wonder sometimes what it would actually take to change peoples heart when it comes to the way they think about each other and treat each other.

The best thing that can happen in situations like this is that the media continues to hand pick incidents and tossing the racist label on them so much that it becomes crying wolf one too many times to where people start ignoring them. I'm about to the point myself where this story has really got me wanting to find news somewhere else. This one has run it's course I think.

 

Not saying racism doesn't exist, I just think they use the label too easy. If the media tosses out the racism label on a particular incident and whether you believe racism was involved or not, you are not politically correct in a lot of cases to disagree with it or you are then labeled a racist when one has nothing to do with the other.

 

That's just my take on it.

If this is true why isn't this being communicated to the citizens of Ferguson and if it has been communicated then why are the protest continuing?

It doesnt help racism either when political parties throw out race card when issues arise.

 

Not sure I can count how many times a person has disagreed with Obama and the Dem Party plays the race card.

 

It dont help when the supposable leaders cry race all the time.

The sad truth is that there are too many people and organizations who claim to fight racism who have no desire to see it go away. Quite a few people make handsome incomes "battling" racism.
