I'm not sure how much faith I would put into them investigating the shooting on their own.

Didn't they ask an outside department to investigate and I think the FBI/DOJ are monitoring the investigation.

I think your right, I think FBI has been monitoring investigation from pretty much day one also. They just aren't running it at this point. If they take over the investigation, cop is getting charged...they rarely take over a case they can't convict or at least bring charges on. Right now they seem to be on the outside looking in.

I thought it already had started. I've avoided having this conversation at work or in person with anyone just because of the sensitivity around it. My thoughts on this situation may not be seen as in step with a lot of my friends and family so I am only discussing it here. My facebook page and twitter time line is chock full of inflammatory posts and lots of Trayvon Martin references. Add in the fact that 3 other young black men have been killed by cops in Milwaukee, Los Angeles and South Carolina in the past 60 days and well......yeah.....things are intense right now.

In their mind, right or wrong, they think there is a "black problem" with the force.

They can't get any info released.

The only info that IS released is a video that is harmful to the victim yet unrelated to the shooting.

They now leak that the kid used weed.

 

As hard as it might be for one to walk in another's shoes can't you POSSIBLY see where the community simply doesn't trust that the police have their best interest at heart?

You know I will on here and I have been with this story. I have friends that would be emotionally distraught if they knew I felt like Michael Brown seems to be at fault for what has happened and that I don't blame the officer's actions based on what we know as of now.

 

Even though it may not always seem like it the most sensible conversations I particpate in take place on here. I can speak freely without having to hold back and that is always appreciated.

Bingo. This is the crux of the issue.

I blame the press for most of the outrage during these types of events. It seems no one waits for the truth anymore before printing. It's more like, I just heard this from a guy who knows a guy who dates a girl who was there 10 minutes after he was shot and so it must be true!

After the initial news is reported from a story such as this one it's then all about the ratings with today's TV media.

I can understand the argument that the police should not have released the video of the robbery. What I don't understand is the comments that the robbery had nothing to do with the shooting.

 

Less than 20 minutes after allegedly robbing a convenience store, Michael Brown was shot by a police officer and his friend, who was apparently with him during the robbery became the primary witness to the shooting.

 

The robbery is potentially connected to the shooting incident in at least two ways.

 

1. Michael Brown had no way of knowing whether Officer Wilson stopped him because he suspected that Brown had just robbed the store. Whatever Brown's reaction to Officer Wilson was, it may very well have been influenced by Brown's fear of being arrested for a crime with the stolen cigars on his person.

 

2. The credibility of an eyewitness to the shooting, who gave a very inflammatory account of the shooting, is dubious because he was present at, if not a participant in, a robbery just minutes before.

 

Had the robbery taken two years earlier, then I would agree that it had nothing to do with the recent shooting - but anything as serious as the victim committing a robbery just 16 minutes earlier almost certainly affected the state of mine of both Brown and the main witness to the shooting.
